Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

I would struggle to pick 3 "favorites" but based on what I have used the most:
270 WIN
300 WSM
375 H&H

Except that excludes the round I've probably used the most- 12 GA

The 375 WBy thread got me thinking of my favorite hunting cartridges off all time.

Here are mine:

22 LR
9.3x62 (followed close my a 375 wby--less bark with the 9.3)
450/400 3" (really it was the gun it was in--but was a sweet shooting as they come)

Ed
This is a tough one!

I think they would be
22-250 Rem
270 Win
And .404 Jeffery

But the 404 could really just as well be 375

The question is: what's you're favourite hunting cartridges, not calibres. So, if I had to choose only 3 to cover every eventuality I opine:
22LR,
12g shotgun, and
9.3x62.

Why the 9.3x62 and not the 375HH?
1) It can do everything the 375HH can out to 250yds,
2) It's just as accurate (and has great straight line penetration) as the 375HH at ranges for DG,
3) Ammo is way cheaper,
4) The 9.3x62 has far less felt recoil than the 375HH - so just about anyone can use one without dislocating their shoulder.

.22 mag
.280 Rem
.375 HH

or

.222 Rem
7x57
9.3x62

or

.22lr
257 Roberts
.300 H&H

I can't decide....

If I could only have three...

22 WMR
30-06
375 H&H

With those three, you can hunt anything from rabbits to elephants.

My actual collection doesn't have a 22 WMR. Instead I have a 22LR, 243, 30-30 and 375. Will be adding a .30-06.
I've added the '06 and dropped the .243 since posting this. Also had and got rid of an AR in 5.56. I have a good .22LR, but I think I'd still like a good .22WMR in a lever or bolt.

Ok today's 3 favorite rifle cartridges for hunting (if I could only have 3 rifles)

1. 22-250 Remington
2. 340 Weatherby Mag
3. 416 Rigby.

I think they cover the whole planet for hunting too. ;-)

The 22-250 might be a little much for rabbit and squirrel but I could reduce the powder down a bit.

Why reduce the powder load on the 22-250, I use my 375H&H and 416 Rigby ( as well as all my other cartridges) on cats and rabbits

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
