http://www.gunbroker.com/item/704717708 .300 H&H!

This is another of that limited run of these like the one I have. I finally found the magazine article I had on these from way back. Win made 1000 of these, 750 with plainer straight grain stocks and 250 with fancy grain that they called the Safari Grade. This one looks like the straight grain, but its not bad. The ser # on this is close to mine so sure its the same run. Keeping mine!

Any chance you could post a little more info on the rifle?
I can't find many details regarding the xtr.

The XTR model is just a later push feed version of the model 70, 80's and on. This version was a limited run for the Wammes corp, a big distributor now defunct I gather. One of the main differences between this and run of the mill XTR rifles is the stock. The regular XTR had the usual Monte Carlo stock instead of the classic straight comb like this. A lot of pre 64 snobs turn their nose up at anything post 64 but the one I have will feed empty cases from the magazine, something most rifles wont do.

Nice.. thanks for the info...
I have been looking for a 300 h&h for some time now.

When you say they made 1000 total , was that just in the 300 h&h caliber?
Also , I know it's post 64 , You have any idea what year this were manufactured?

Yes, 1K in .300 H&H. Late 80's on these. Article is dated Ma7 1988. I had one when they first came out, then foolishly sold it, then found another on GB a few months ago. Great shooter.

@Clayton d ...I bought mine
DSCF3344.JPG
a couple of weeks after Ses. My had a little work to it by the previous owner. I originally had planned on having a smith do a little work to bring it back to original, but it is so accurate and smooth, I will never have anything done to that rifle. Less than 1 box of Hornady 180 grain and I shot this at 150 yards..... I am not going to touch it....Period!

Nice shooting... sierraone
Eventually I was planning on reloading this caliber , looks like hornady makes a good accurate bullet.

How is recoil compared to say a 300 win mag?

Much less than my son's Vanguard 300 win mag. His Vanguard kicks as much as my M70 .375 Holland, but is also much much lighter!

I want sure if the recoil was gonna be more or less... thanks
The vanguard deluxe 30-06 is what I just took to Africa last month for a cull/management hunt. I like those rifles. Accurate and doesn't break the bank. Just looking for something with a little more punch down range. Plus the 300 h&h is a classic!!
If I keep getting more rifles I'm gonna need a bigger safe!! Lol

That is about what I paid for mine too, so he is not out of line.

Thanks sestoppelman ..
I sent the seller a message asking him a couple questions..
thanks for bringing this rifle to my attention..
Did you get it? Saw it was ended on GB

Asked the seller a few questions. He responded to my question after the auction ended. He is gonna be relisting it very shortly..

Best of luck, looks like a good rifle for the price

I wondered what happened, slow to relist. Hope you get it, I sure do like mine.

Very slow to relist. ..
Hoping I get it also..
Do you buy factory rounds or do some reloading?

I reload most everything from 9mm to the big stuff with few exceptions. I have found that this case like so many others really likes Reloder powders, especially 22 and 25. Found also this rifle really likes 220 gr Hornady round nose bullets. Also 200 gr Nosler Partitions with a stiff charge of R22 works well in both this rifle and my pre 64 version.

Perfect....
got some reloader 22 on the bench now..
Just got to order some projectiles.
You ever try making up a load using the lighter grain projectiles with good accuracy?

Lightest I play with in a .30 mag is 165 grs, save the 150's for my mil rifles, Garand etc.

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
