How big are the bubbles that come out of the barrel?

Prime the case, put the powder in, fill the case with a bit of date roll and use soap or wax in the neck like a bullet......easy.

Do yo have any idea what the H2O capacity ( filled to the mouth ) of your Improved 338/348 case would be ? My info says a standard 348 is 75grs....

Not yet, but it is one of the more significant improvements as the 348W has a huge case & neck taper.
Recently got a permit to cull 100 Kangaroos so I could just use a fireforming load for that. A bit of overkill, but they would be dead.

Load the case with about 25gn of unique, may need more, push half to a full square of dunny paper into the case to hold the powder and push the case mouth into a cake of sunlight soap or any other brand.
Chamber and pull trigger, cases form beautifully.

Ok - got it. Worth a try, a square of toilet paper is certainly cheaper than any projectile.

Reloading dies are now complete, so I can start reloading cartridges.

To start fireforming I am going to load up 10 with with Bertram 250gr projectiles with 60gr of AR2208.
Then I am going to try blowing some bubbles with 30gr of AR2205 ,a square of "who gives a crap" and a wad of Velvet soap. AR 2205 is the fastest powder I have and use - what are your thoughts on 30gr of AR 2205 to start?
Other than that, I am filling pores in the stock.

Back in the 70's, we did a .45/70 on a friend's Siamese Mauser. He was able to duplicate all of my .458 2" loads.
350's at 2,296 fps
400's at 2,150 fps
500's at 2,059fps.
These were all with the same powder charge, how the 350's and 400's could have been going faster, but not needed. I was able to duplicate these vel. with both H335 and IMR 4320.
I've had both .450 Alaskan and .50 Alaskan - great ctgs.

Ive only ever use unique shotgun powder so can't say how 2205 might go.
You aren't using a projectile so over pressure won't be an issue.
Suck it and see what happens.

That cartridge looks very much like a slightly short necked .333 Flanged Jeffery, cool round.

Yes, very similar at this point. But it is yet to be fireformed into the Ackley Improved chamber which will significantly change the case taper and shoulder angle.
The best description after fireforming is a 338WSM flanged.

Solved the ejection issue today.
I bought this action for the extractor. The claw was too thick to fit the groove in the 348W case but was a very good fit with the WSM case I have for the 416WSM rifle.
The extractor claw on the 416WSM bolt had a much sharper claw tip that fitted the 348W groove. Hence I just swapped the extractors between rifles. Initially I could not close the bolt on the 338/348AI as the recess in the barrel end did not extend high enough to clear the claw. Pulled the barrel and cut 1.0mm to extend the top of the cutout.
All good now, both rifles are loading, extracting and ejecting.
