What did you reload today?

Interesting, I didn’t have any problems with the N160 running thru my RCBS chargemaster. What are you using to measure powder?
Lee powder measurer. Might just be the N555 not had issues with other powder. I’ve N140 and N550 here used MIR4451 and the old H 4350 before it became unavailable to us.

That has happened to me twice with Barnes TSX which I love. Had two fall into the brass and refused to seat, lol, I finally did what you did to discover it was just a defective size and weight bullet sent to me in a new unopened box of bullets
Really through me I was thinking did I miss sizing this last cartridge?? Had a neck size die so used that first as I didn’t want to go through the whole deprive and clean the case when the bullet still wouldn’t seat I thought hey this isn’t die isn’t working so ran it through the FLD then went hang on how can two dies not be working??  :A Stirring: Recon someone at Hornady is called Murphy last fecken name Sod!:ROFLMAO:

I use N555 often and no problems with metering through my Chargemaster.
It is a bit bulky though.

Great powder, but I also find that it's quite a dirty powder compared to N550 or N160.

Loaded up some 30-06 and prepped 300H&H brass to start looking for a load with a new bullet.

Hi, is that a mistake with the case length to OAL length, or did I loose something in translation?
Gumpy
:)
My mistake. I don't know the exact case length at the moment (I gave the bullets to my uncle). OAL in the first attempt was 83.10mm, then 82.75 and finally 82.90mm.
I apologize for the mistake

Couple of options: (1) you can dry tumble the brass without hurting the primers; (2) load the brass and then dry tumble the completed rounds (which is what the factories do, I believe); (3) make up a paste of Barkeeper's Friend and water and rub it with your fingers on the outside of the brass until the tarnish is removed (this is what I would do because I've done it). Apply as you would Imperial Sizing Wax; should take about half a minute per case. Then wipe it all off with a damp towel and allow to air dry thoroughly before storing.

I hear both sides of the coin regarding tumbling g live rounds or not.
It seems to be a pretty good conclusion that tumbling live rounds could affect grain size and thus affect burn rate.
Say like using an extruded powder that now has broken up into smaller pieces.
I my self have never done it or tested it

416 Taylor with AA 4064 at 69 grains under 400 grain TSXs. I understand the AA version needs a grain more than IMR 4064 to achieve the same velocity. The AAvversion looks like a shorter cut stick than IMR 4064.

After dumping the powder, I spin and tamp the cases on the bench to remove voids and condensate powder column in the case. I even tamp the cases with partially seated bullets as it gets close to the powder. I cannot get loaded bullets close to magazine length, single feed yes. The caliper bumped up but OAL was 3.4845”.

If AA 4064 is a shorter cut IMR 4064, how do you get 69 grains of I4064 in the case? Something’s not right.

Brass is Norma
Bullet is 400gr TSX
Remington 9.5 primer (shouldn’t matter)

Did you measure the capacity of the case?

i did not but with 69 grains of AA the column sits right at the neck-shoulder junction. Spinning and tamping the case drops the column below the shoulder.

I may switch a partial box of 400 grain Nosler Partitions I have. The bullet is shorter in length fore and aft of the crimp groove. Another option might be the 370 grain North Fork SS is shorter than the TSX as well. I

Others…
350 grain TSX
Woodleigh 340 grain

How much space does he lack?
Maybe the gunpowder was not well distributed in the case. Try hitting a loaded bullet (of course with moderate force so you don't hurt the case) from the side of the case into some hard object. Maybe the gunpowder will settle better in the case

Have you tried some reloading software yourself? Enter all the data and see how much gunpowder can fit. Of course, you have to calculate the capacity of the case
