What did you reload today?

Plinking loads for the 35 whelen, 158g nosler HP I found in the cabinet, they are fun but think I’ll need a dedicated rifle for them as the POI is way off any of my other loads lol

Cleaned and brought in all this extra 30/06 brass I got from an older gentleman, I prefer 25-06 or 35 Whelen so probably just convert it on one of the finder winter days.

What are you going to defend with those?

In case you make too much noise, I can back you up with these subsonic 300 Blackout 190gr moly SMKs I just finished. I had a few pieces of random brass laying around so decided to load them with four different powders to see which one I like the best: AA1680 vs. CFE BLK vs. Reloder 7 vs. IMR4198 all at the 1100fps load level according to the Sierra manual. Fun fact: not one of these bullets seated to the same length, either measuring COAL or to the ogive; darndest thing I've seen. I tried with and without micrometer (I only have Lee dies in this caliber) and never could get a consistent length. As long as they will feed I suppose. P.S. Hornady factory load brass had crimped primers I had to ream out! This is not one of the funner carts to reload, but I have almost 22 pounds of these bullets to use up!

Atta boy! I figure we have allot of bases covered between my menacing LeHighs and your stealthy SMKs. ;)

Had a real head scratcher today. Was loading up some 6.5 for a mate last round in the box and it would not seat for love nor money!!!
I’m putting the case back through the die. Can’t figure it out the suddenly thought hey wait a minute!

Those are the big nasty. Very interested to hear how they perform.

I am about to have some time on my hands, we'll see.
BTW, what do you do when your cleaned primed brass gets tarnished? Don't want to risk doing anything to primer performance. And do want to have the brass adhere to the chamber walls, so no Flitz.

300 WSMs throated for 3.1” OAL in a long action. Loaded up some Hornady 212gr & 200gr ELD-X bullets. Thought I would upgrade by 2025 Africa backup gun for my Africa 2027 trip and consider it as my primary (minus DG). I took a short action 300 WSM with 168gr TSXs and only shot it at the range to check zero. I really wanted to hunt PG with it but used my 9.3x62 for the entire hunt.

Couple of options: (1) you can dry tumble the brass without hurting the primers; (2) load the brass and then dry tumble the completed rounds (which is what the factories do, I believe); (3) make up a paste of Barkeeper's Friend and water and rub it with your fingers on the outside of the brass until the tarnish is removed (this is what I would do because I've done it). Apply as you would Imperial Sizing Wax; should take about half a minute per case. Then wipe it all off with a damp towel and allow to air dry thoroughly before storing.

I have a wet tumbler that I use sometimes with pins and allot of times recently with no pins. I then put them in a Frankford Arsenal brass dryer. If I don’t dry them enough (because my wife unplugs it) they will get water spots on them. I’ve never worried too much about a little tarnish on them.
This is new Norma brass that you can see a bunch of little tarnish spots on them. Allot of the new Norma stuff I have for the Rigby looks like that. I have not run these thru the tumbler btw.

Today was .300 Win. Annealing and lots of brass prep. Also worked out some COAL numbers for a .280 Ackley.

Soon, an old friend in .22-250 will return to me wearing a new .22-250 Ackley barrel. It will be fun to work up a load for 80 grain bullets.

An old gunsmith friend of mine warned me about the 250 Ackley. He said the case above the groove tapered so that blowing out to Ackley specs would cause gap between the web and chamber. His solution was to use 300 Sav brass. Have you noticed any problem as noted?

350gr Barnes Banded Solids for the 416 Rigby, first time using VihtaVuori N160. :)

@steve white I put them on my case trim holder that fits my drill and use some green scotch bite pads. A couple of spins and you’re good to go. Takes off most tarnish, water spots, finger marks etc. I’m still learning with my cleaning regime having changed to an ultrasonic cleaner. Used stainless steel pins before but I broke my homemade tumbler…..more like it exploded on me but that’s another story. Try the above it’s simple and easy, you can even do it safely with fully loaded rounds.

How did you find handling the N160? I was using some N555 the yesterday and found it quite sticky especially through my powder measure.
Interesting, I didn’t have any problems with the N160 running thru my RCBS chargemaster. What are you using to measure powder?

I've used the N160 many times. I've put it in 3006, 8x68, 300winmag... It's never been sticky. It just takes a lot of weight to get the speeds.

That has happened to me twice with Barnes TSX which I love. Had two fall into the brass and refused to seat, lol, I finally did what you did to discover it was just a defective size and weight bullet sent to me in a new unopened box of bullets
