Has anyone here hunted Vancouver bulls in Hawaii? These are basically feral cattle that have been running wild since 1790 and are similar to the scrub bulls of Australia.

If you have any experience and guide recommendations, I would like to hear from you.

I'm pretty sure jon sabati hunts them. He is a guide there. I know he's on Instagram and Facebook. Just can't think of his company name at the moment.

Interesting, look forward to hearing more if there is any info out there.

EAI is where I saw it first. I’ve requested more info from Ed. He often has a DVD with more info he sends to you.

I have encountered ferel cattle in South Africa too. On my third safari we were split up trying to get a shot at a kudu bull I'd hit poorly. I was perched on a cliff overlooking a huge valley with a lot of animal traffic. Suddenly a white flash appeared below me. Put the binoculars on it and to my surprise it was the face of a charlais cow looking up at me about sixty yards away. That night I mentioned it to my PH. "Damn! Wish you'd shot that bitch! There's three of them I've been trying to get rid of for four years. Two white and one spotted cow. They are wilder and smarter than any kudu." We were headed back up there the next morning and I assured him I'd blast any cattle that I saw. "But how does SCI measure feral cattle with no horns?"

Last safari I hunted a huge property also in the East Cape mountains and the landowner had a small herd of wild cattle he had introduced years ago. They were the native Boer cart oxen. We bumped them once in the thick stuff. Long horns and brindle colored. Actually kinda scroungy looking critters. Surprisingly tall. Apparently the breed is almost extinct.

P.S. We did eventually get my wounded kudu.

I never made the hunt, Covid killed it, but I did talk with Nahele Outfitters about Vancouver bull/mouflon hunt. They seemed great and there seems to be a variety of game across the islands. Keep us posted, I’ll make it there sometime

Ive gotten his DVD a few years ago in this and the other Hawaiian hunts. I watched with interest, but never pursued it. Basically it would have been a sideline to other things. I never had enough interest to pursue the importing of firearms into that island state. Something you should check into 1st. Yes you can rent, but why?

I would want to hunt with my own rifle as 7mm is small for that animal. Look how thick that cover is...same bull in both photos.

I would be interested in either a double Vancouver bull hunt or adding a turkey hunt to the bull hunt. I haven't met anyone who has hunted the bulls there...turkeys yes.

Interesting, when we visited Maui many years ago, heard about goat anything hunts, feral animals brought in by Spanish explorers centuries ago. I understand the goats are challenging.
That bull in the second picture looks like the Hereford bull my dad bought decades ago, but he was well mannered.

I’d love to hunt Hawaii.

That bull would make a hell of a rug

I heard back from EAI. The Vancouver bull hunts are temporarily suspended due to insurance, which could change later. I'm reaching out to Jon Sabati also.

Are you wanting to specially hunt Wild Bulls on Hawaii ?

If not the best bet would be in Aussie outback for Scrub Bull or better still Red Bulls in both NT & Northern QLD.

The ones we have in NZ would be too hard for a foreign hunter, our Bush/Jungle is crazy thick & any Wild Cattle from legitimate herds need to be hard to reach or they are already in someone’s freezer !

We do have lots of Turkeys to hunt along with Wild Peacocks & many other game birds.

I did just find a small wild/feral herd of Scottish Highland cattle but I also hear that our Nature Department is trying to eradicate them as with some of the other herds.

I think this has happened to the larger herds in Hawaii also, destroyed the Muflon sheep hunting from what it was as well.

I like hunting bovines anywhere and Hawaii would be an interesting opportunity. I am working on a future hunt in AUS for cull and scrub bulls.

You should try to add a Bantang that is one of the most awesome Bovines next to a real Gaur !

Banteng is on the list.

I hunted Vancouver bull with Nahele in May, Awesome experience. I used a 458 with RMR.
Send me a message and we can talk this week.

I also took a great Mouflon Black Hawaiian hybrid the second day with 300 PRC.

I am waiting on taxidermy to post a report. Just euros, but I like everything finalized before making a report.

The Nahele guys are awesome. I have hunted with them several times,

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?

Hi Green Chile, I just recently bought a 470 NE barrel for my Thompson Center TCR 83-87 single shot. Im just looking for some 470 NE to shoot at the range just to try it out. I dont need anything special but I just wanted to see what you have left. I dont necessarily even need a full box.
Thanks
Bill
