Question for the R8 folks: For countries that only allow two rifles, does bring two barrels for one R8 stock count as two rifles or one? Thx

Which African countries limit you to only two rifles? None of the common destinations I can think of do.

Whether you are looking for 2 or 3 guns to bring to Africa...each R8 barrel counts as 1 gun on the permit. And remember, in most cases, you can't bring in 2 of the same caliber.

Whether the limit be 2 or 3 - I have never so far experienced a limit at 2 - my interpretation is that each barrel/caliber of the R8 counts as 1.
What substantiates my thinking is that each barrel has a different serial number.
I have traveled repeatedly to RSA and/or Zim with 3 barrels without as much as a question from permitting authorities.

In Africa and Europe, most of the guns I have seen are serialed on the barrels, unlike in the US where the serial is on the receiver. The Blaser R8 is serialed on both receiver and barrel...and after you switch out a barrel, that won't match up. Put the R8 barrel serials on your 4457 and permits and you will be fine.

From my experience depends on which country and what part of the country you will arriving.

Take the R8 in 375H&H and you will be covered for everything while still traveling light. Bring some solids for elephant and the tiny 10, Barnes TSX or Swift A-Frames for everything else.

I thought Botswana…but I could be wrong
Looks like you are correct. I looked up South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia. It was a while ago but I remember a post here a while ago from a Botswana resident that Blasers are common there because the receiver is the controlled component. It’d be worth looking into if that’s true.
