Thoughts on type of camps

I really don’t want luxury, just doesn’t feel right. Clean, comfortable and basic is ideal for me. We stopped in two places last year, one was absolutely perfect, brick chalets with a bedroom, dressing room and bathroom and a communal dining room. All had a Rhodesian donkey boiler and we had hot water and electricity for a couple of hours every evening.

Basic to us but absolutely comfortable and far better than most local people’s living conditions.

We then stayed somewhere more luxurious, with family friends. Being totally honest, it was too much, so far removed from the lives of local people, it didn’t seem right at all and was totally disconnected to the bush around. Understandable if you live there but I wouldn’t want the cost of it to be factored in to my hunting.

The atmosphere is most important to me. The first camp was a happy place, it felt like home straight away, other places feel like a hotel. For me, I don’t want to feel like a tourist sheltered from what is around me, I want to feel like I am staying with friends.

The accommodation in Scotland is generally comfortable but basic. Most lodges I have stayed in only have basic heating, limited peaty hot water. I always think that people staying in luxury hotels are missing out.

Haven't done Africa (yet) but here's what I would like for a hunting trip, not necessarily in any order 1) A comfortable place to sleep 2) Decent food 3) ability to get a hot shower 4) Clean clothes

None of these need to be fancy and I don't mind doing without for a while to get the game I'm after. I just want to know that camp will be comfortable when we get back.

Having said that, the idea of a tent camp appeals to me.

I hope that makes sense. I'll be planning a hunt within a couple of years God willing.

That's what I think I would want also, but you explained it much better than I could.

There are lots of good Sponsor outfitters around here, you won’t have to look very far to find what you want.

On both of my hunts what was described above was what we had.

My room on each hunt was fantastic for a hunting camp compared to what I put up with here in North America. I would consider my cabin, hut, or whatever you want to call it a nice hotel room.

Here are a few pictures.

At any decent SAFARI tent camp you will have hot showers, daily laundry, clean sheets, and a dining tent with decent to good food. If you leave the main camp and go to a spike camp for a few days, things may get abbreviated a bit.

DO WE NEED A NEW THREAD TO TALK ABOUT ALL THE HALF-ARSED DEER CAMPS WE HAVE STAYED IN? OLD SOUTHERN PLANTATION HOME TURNED INTO LODGE WITH 3 BUNKBEDS IN EACH ROOM AND 12 GUYS SHARING 1 BATHROOM! USUALLY GOOD FOOD AND LOTS OF LAUGHS THOUGH.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
