This. This is why,

I know a couple of easy ways into yellowstone via horseback that avoids 95% of the crowd of obnoxious tourist. I have a senior pass so they don't loose many $.What I find annoying is the USFS and parks in general crowd bicycles and equestrians onto the same trails and they dont mix well at all. QUADS are a whole issue by themselves they are very destructive to land and they are rude, not anyone here youknow but ...
Backpackers can be equally obnoxious and ignorant. "Please step up off the trail and stand still till I get my pack string past." No! It's my trail too. "Well, okay. But these animals tend to freak out going around strange critters with bright colored bundles strapped on top. Don't cry to me if you get your teeth kicked loose!" That usually gets them moving. Still, I was always surprised at the number of backpackers who were actually savy to it and would get well off the trail when they heard the cowbell coming. But that was a long time ago when most of the people living in Montana were born there.

There’s ways into Rocky Mountain NP too. We do crowd everyone into the same areas and trails. Not really much other choice I’m afraid. At least not right now. What’s needed is for the red tape to go away and let us ground pounders do our jobs. Then we could build more trails, get people spread out a bit. Though I do enjoy areas with not trails during hunting season. The quads and UTVs are an issue. Lots of damage including erosion, wildlife habitat, heritage sites etc. they are here to stay I’m sure but people need to learn to stay in trail and use them responsibly.
I would be totally fine with making it illegal to carry a rifle on quad or SxS. What a difference that would make! Still be road hunters in vehicles but the cost of fuel these days has put a damper on a lot of that.

I mean...what could possibly go wrong? Sheesh. I don't even let my toddler near a person's dog let alone a 1000 lb+ wild mound of potential rage.

In all fairness to areas outside the USA, the video of the safari truck getting 10 feet from the uber-pissed off elephant smashing the earth made me think the same thing.

Just asking for trouble.

The park unit is so small I don't know why anyone would want to saddle up. The only trail is maybe a mile long. Musig Broad Lake? I am familiar with everything from Glasgow to Shelby and Canadian border to Great Falls. That one doesn't ring a bell.
spelled" mussigbrod" pronounced music broad. at the end of fr573, which connects to mussigbrod lake road, which connects to lower north fork road. nice trail leaves the lake ,north of Wisdom. nice campground with horse facilities which they allow. wow. about 15 miles north of the big hole, as the eagle flys pretty much straight along n USFS boundary.
one way in and out, cant miss it, nice way to explore hell roaring creek.
you are right 1 trail at big hole natl battle field ,paved as I remember and full of people , dogs on leashes strollers and kids the rest of the park is "off limits"
which reminds me of a recent news article about a runner in Grand tetons NP. THAT WAS CHARGED WITH A FELONY TRESSPASS FOR RUNNING ON AN off limits trail. If that trail was better marked he said if would not have happened.

Wisdom is the other Nez Perce battlefield. Bear Paw was the end of the line for them.

But Disney taught us that wild animals only eat the old and sick. My aunt believed this and a mountain lion killed and ate one of her horses. I showed her the tracks and told her that mountain lions (cougars, pumas, panthers, etc.) do not eat carrion so the cat had killed her year and a half old colt. She refused to believe it. Three weeks later another healthy colt disappeared. That time they found the horse carcass and jumped the cat off of it.

Oh, and wild animals never attack people unless the people "threatened them.
ttToo much Disney TV, naming dangerous animals with cutesy names and there is absolute no cure for care-less and ignorance. Both combined in one person is a
