This one hurt.

On the scale of unobtainable quarter bores, this one ranks up there pretty high.

Factory Custom shop left handed "Custom Classic" M70 in 25-06, high figure stock, appears to be hand checkered, engine turned bolt extractor and follower. Winchester never produced a left handed 25-06 outside of their custom shop.

Seller was extremely careless with packaging.
Luckily I have another unfinished factory custom shop stock with even better figure than this one.

Negotiating a partial refund at the moment. I know better, but let this be a lesson to demand shipping in a hard case when you’re buying a rifle with a nice stock. This was purchased from a gunshop not a private seller fwiw

Ouch that’s a painful one.

I’d demand a full refund and return it. Let the idiot seller figure out how to get it fixed.

This summer I changed my fishing arsenal. I bought some new rods, some were not disassembled into parts, they were about two meters long, and they all came in sturdy cardboard tubes. No breakdowns!

Why was the rifle, which costs much more than a fishing rod, shipped in a bad package?

That sucks ! Glad you have another stock for it. For sure should have been packaged better, that being said the grain structure appears to be not great through the wrist for a break to occur in that manner. I am sure it would have been fine for a low recoiling rifle. Are all the pieces there ? I have seen some amazing repairs by talented individuals.

It’s all there, I’ve seen some pretty nice repairs but beings I have another high figure stock laying around for it I don’t think it’s worth putting any more money into this stock. It’ll be a good winter project to get an oil finish and good hand checker job on this other piece of wood I have. I agree about the grain, probably not the best choice for a sturdy rifle.

As a fellow lefty who has a thing for left handed model 70s, congrats on an awesome find. Bummer on the busted stock but looks like your plan B will be top notch. Don’t forget to show us the finished product.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
