The many calibers gone from the scene, faded into obscurity, locked away in some dusty cupboard with boxes of Kynoch, some gone, some forgotten. If we just chose the golden ages of African hunting, Teddy Roosevelt, Karamojo Bell, Fred Kirby, Fred Selous, and tallied calibers starting with a 2 3 4 or 5 in the front, how many would there be?. If someone has a list, I'd like to see it. Oddly enough, it's the military calibers & rifles converted to sporting models that endure, The Enfields Springfields Mausers as a small sample etc. Thanks to members on this forum we do get to have a look at some of the guns & ammo of the last two centuries.

Further, I see that Woodleigh have two bullets for the 425WR listed, 410gr SN and 410gr FMJ. it's great to see this old caliber come back. Seems Woodleigh believe in them.

Indeed Teddy loved his .405. thanks for the continuing list.

I never made it to a Winchester 1895 like Theodore Roosevelt's, but once, a Belgian double in .405 Winchester crossed my path...

This is a great list. I load, shoot and hunt with the following:
318 WR
425 WR
350 Rigby Magnum
333 Jeffery rimless
280 Rimless Nitro Express - a “British” 7mm in .287, similar to the 275 H&H magnum, 280 Jeffery
8x60s - the “Versailles” caliber

Woodleigh and Bertram have made all this much easier. CH4D and Quality cartridge are very helpful as well.

i‘m working next on a 6.5x54 Kurz Mauser

The really tough ones to bring back from the dusty cupboard are ones like the 242 Manton/Vickers/rimless nitro express - it had a bullet diameter between .243 and .257.

Let's not forget calibers like the .500/465 NE that were developed after .450 was banned in India and the Sudan. These are often available in some pretty swanky rifles.

I think that the 6.5 X 54 MS is alive... but perhaps not well?

Not to forget the cartridge, that defended the Empire.....

I do apologize for the late response . But I just learnt from my friend at Kynoch that that they offer factory loaded 410 grain soft nosed ammunition for the .425 Westley Richards . But not factory loaded full metal jacket solids .

The list is getting bigger !. I would be very happy with every caliber you have there and it's great to see how many are still being used. Open that cupboard and get the dust out people !.
