Well done Dr. I’ll be hunting NT come September and enjoy your posts.

I assume you’re hunting our buffalo??
What /caliber/scope/cartridge/bullet weight !??

@Dr Ray do you have a picture of the group?

Actually I was practising with 25/06 for my fallow deer hunt.
300 I’ll be checking at Kurrimine beach soo.

Buffalo & whatever else that is considered invasive/pest; this is a rescheduled hunt that was cancelled because of covid.

Rifle choice is a sensitive subject.

.404J firing 400gr Hydros and 450gr Woodleigh SP were the intended bullets to load.

I had a BRNO 602 .375H&H sent off for conversion to .404J two years ago and recently received a box of unfinished parts back and had to send off to another smith for completion which would certainly not be done in time for the hunt.

So I decided that using my .470ne would be a great dress rehearsal for my planned tuskless hunt July 2024 - so I mounted an RMR then began practicing.

Extremely happy with my decision…. Until I hear back from NT firearms council.

Bringing a rifle to Australia to hunt with a Safari company is an acceptable reason to bring a rifle into the country.

However coming to OZ so that you can hunt private property with your friends that are licensed shooters is not an acceptable reason to bring a rifle to OZ.

So I’m being forced by OZ regulations to borrow a rifle from the mate I’ll be hunting with; instead of bringing my own.

Yes unbelievable rules all stemming from the Port Arthur massacre years ago.
Water buffalo are huge animals - up to half as big again as Cape Buffalo but generally not as tenacious.
Plenty of feral pigs to take too!
You’ll enjoy the hunt!

I'm hearing a bit about .25-06 of late from different people.
My mate bought one for Fallow but has been shooting pigs with it lately. That's purely opportunistic but its proven on pigs so will be good for Fallow.

Thanks Dr. Ray it will be an adventure for sure; you’re 25-06, am I dreaming or did you get a Kimber Super America?

I’ve had excellent results with Nosler Accubonds in all the .25cal but especially the 25-06 which is plenty fast enough for the mono metals.

I was basically given the Ruger 77 M2
It was so accurate with cheap 90 grain hollow points the previous owner didn’t bother with hand loads.
He could put 5 shots into a matchbox size target at a measured 300m.
I’m using Federal 117 grain factory ammo atm (power shock) because I won’t be doing much hunting or shooting with it.
I’ll be concentrating on the 300 Winchester for long range target shooting.
I would usually use my Sako 270 with the Swarovski scope for deer hunting. One of my hosts (Maree) is very tiny and very inexperienced so I thought the milder recoil of the 25/06 would be better. I put a Nightforce scope on it and I practised on Saturday.
I also took my Kimber 308 also with a NF scope for friend Jason to use at the range.
I’ve only ever shot wild pigs with the 25/06 but figure it’ll be fine for fallow deer.
I will post my hunt on here and hope to get a Buck and does for meat.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
