TANZANIA: Heritage Safaris

Good stuff

Weird timing as I just watched a Youtube segment with you hunting sable at AAA Serpara's. I was so impressed with your zebra stock, I immediately grabbed my Tikka 300 WSM and painted the zebra pattern on the rear stock. I stopped at the trigger guard as I couldn't see how the front stock pattern was. It appears the stripes start at the bottom and fade out as they go up, opposite of the rear stock section which are broad stripes on top going down. Any chance you could post most pics of your rifle ?

Thanks so much . I'll finish it up this weekend.

Buffalo was next on the agenda for me and I passed up countless bulls over the course of three days looking for that exact one I wanted. We put many miles on in the Landcruiser and on foot and saw lions and hyena and several unique species of plains game. We also kept an eye on the leopard baits and had good activity on them but nothing during daylight hours. Finally, late one morning we kind of stumbled in to herd of about 200 buffalo. They were on the edge of the heavy cover and we were able to move through them relatively undetected, even thoug

h were were less than 10 yards at times but we couldn't find a bull that I wanted. Then, an errant wind sent the herd into a full stampede and we had buffalo running on all sides of is. We were in the middle and I'd be lying if I didn't say my heart was racing. We ran to the edge of an opening just in time to see a great bull. For whatever reason, he stopped to face us as the rest of the herd continued to thunder away. I wasted no times getting on the sticks and firing.

The hit sounded solid but the big bull ran off relatively unscathed. I began to question my shot and wondered how we'd ever find blood among the tracks of 200 buffalo but we did find blood...almost immediately. We followed the trail about 80 yards and found the bull lying down in a thicket. As we approached he started to rise and I put one in his spine from behind. In added a second for insurance. He was the exact type of bull had wanted. When the trackers were dressing him, Karlos brought the heart over and my first shot had gone right through the middle of it yet the bull still managed to go 80 yards and wait for our approach. It gave me a whole new respect for buffalo.

Excellent hunt report! Can't wait to hear more!

Great write-up on a brilliant hunt; congratulations to all concerned.

Thanks for sharing and two real nice Buffalo. Congratulations!

Curious as to what bullet you were using on the second Buff, that hole looks awfully small for an expanding bullet, especially on a full frontal shot.

Just goes to show if you hit a Buff right before he knows you are there they normally expire quite fast, this one obviously had some adrenalin pumping before he got shot. Tough buggers these old Buff.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
