Suppressing a .375?

@Daisy the Raptor 8 is around 8 inches long. You state you’re using a 5”reflex. Does that mean the suppressor only adds 3 inches to the barrels overall length?

The raptor 8 adds exactly 6” to the length of the barrel. (The 8 in the name is the number of baffles rather than the length.

Well, my choices may get changed down the road, but I wanted a 375 that I could shoot on PG and perhaps one day on a buff. I snagged a Christensen Evoke in 375h&h for $700 NIB. (I have not shot it yet and I know some Christensen rifles have issues… I had one that did but they promptly fixed it and now it is a hammer.)
I got an AB raptor 8 with 5” reflex. The can weighs 14oz as it sits and adds 6” to the 22” barrel. The weight of the rifle is 9.5#

I admit it has that tacticool look which is clearly a thing, but a 28" barreled dangerous game rifle ..................... Why on earth encumber yourself with that in the thick stuff trying to walk down a buffalo - or anything else on four legs for that matter.

For now, we will call it an experiment… I can always shoot it unsupressed as well. I ran a few rounds through it after church today and it is surprisingly tame to shoot.

I contacted Ruger about replacing my non threaded Alaskan barrel with a threaded barrel, was told will only replace with whatever it was originally equipped with. I don’t want to lose the front banded sight, local gunsmith did not want to touch it, suggested Briley in Houston. Any thoughts?

After failing to find anyone locally, I used Silencer Central for two of my barrels. You can give them specific instructions on how to handle your sights etc. They have a dedicated team and and thread 15-20 barrels a day. Shipping was a breeze. They also mounted and timed 3 port ASR brakes on both.

I contacted Southpaw, the response was that with the barrel taper it was not possible to relocate the banded sight back to allow threading. I had previously identified an owner who had done precisely that to the same rifle, the shop he used was no longer in business. I will continue my search.

But surely they are setting the barrel up in the lathe to take it down to the correct diameter for threading ? It would be a simple task to simply turn down the barrel for the sight ? Just a little step that might leave a shoulder but the sight barrel band will cover it up ? I guess it is different for a reflex suppressor but doesn’t seem insurmountable to me. Just measure the diameter of the banded sight and turn the barrel for that diameter.
