South Africans Caught Smuggling Sable - Theo Bronkhorst

Well hopefully the sable escaped and didn't die due to human stupidity.

I just got a report.
The Sable are in a Boma near Beitbridge.
Apparently they are "Giant Sable" and were purchased in Zambia.

With the Foot & Mouth Disease quarantine they would not allowed into RSA from Zimbabwe.

So, what is an enterprising fellow to do..... Cross the Limpopo in the dry season and get stuck and thus caught.

Me thinks the Zim government is going to be feeding Bob some nice, very expensive, Sable filets.

And the plot thickens...
I dont think Zambia is allowing live game exports...

You never know, many people become blind..........it explains all the rhino poaching...etc.

Some enterprising Zim politician will probably figure out away to get them moved onto his personal property.

Special deal being offered on sable hunting in Zim.....client doesn't need to walk far...

Someone could place an ad for a true "Giant Sable" hunt. ;)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all Giant Sable from Angola? Or is there a difference between Giant Sable and Royal Giant Sable?

A Royal Giant Sable is one you have shot.:)

Depends how much Grey Goose you have had to drink or if they were released in the EC recently.

Not sure about the Giant Sable reference from Brickburns post.

@PeteG might be able to help with this. I have heard that one of the reasons for Zambia's big sable is the interbreeding between sable and giant sable through the years. Especially in western Zambia. What is your opinion on this?

I thought that was Royal's Sable? And he still has to be shot. And no, I won't shoot him from the truck. :W Jeep:

Now I'm really confused. I thought the EC Royal Sable Antelope was a different species all together. .. ;)

No chaps, think you all been drinking that Tipo Tinto rum from Mozambique.......Kurt got quite fond of the smooth taste....

Not sure if there was any interbreeding.
I will chat to Mike this weekend when he heads back to Lusaka from the ranch, will see what he has to say on this.

This sheds a bit of light

Great read Pete.
Interesting that the markings are the same but there is significant genetic differences seen in the microscope.

I like the authors use of the Country name out front to help distinguish with precision what they are writing about.

"Giant" is abused as much as "free range", "organic", "Greater Kruger", etc.

One way or the other, smuggling live critters was being done here.

If exports are not legal the whole thing is crooked.

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
