I’m waiting for dominant side, reverse shoulder joint replacement surgery, and wondering if anyone can tell me what I might expect with respect to the shooting sports. I have heard so many different things, not sure what to expect, hoping for some positive comments. If anyone has experience with this, please share, or private message me if you don’t want to post publicly. Thank you.

I hunt, shoot, and do shoulder (and reverse shoulder) replacements for a living.

It’s hard to give great advice without knowing you specifics, but presumably, your shoulder already isn’t working so well……

In general, I tell people to have fun shooting, but I recommend they avoid a steady diet of magnum shooting, including days of 3-1/2” goose loads.

When it comes to big bores, I think it might be OK to shoot a suppressed .375, on occasion, but I’d recommend avoiding the big thumpers.

Some of this depends on the rest of your health, the strength and size of the bone structure, security of implant fixation, etc. Ask your surgeon and be very specific. Maybe show your surgeon a video of what you intend to shoot, and listen to them.

Had a Total Shoulder replacement on my dominant side end of March Have been this year very comfortable shooting Clays with my 12ga O/U starting this Sept
Have yet to shoot a Rifle larger than my 22 K-Hornet.. now 7 months post surgery ... Waiting till next summer a full year plus and yes I'll be speaking to my surgeon
Would like to get back and chase Ele's again in 2027

I have not had a replacement
But both are riped.
It was the reason I bought a 350L
Low recoil and a good sized bullets for hogs.

I have slowly worked mu way back up to the 358w
Nothing big but a 257w still hurts when I shoot it.
And before I cools shoot 3 1/2 12ga and 10ga with no problem

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
