I have a personal firing range on my property and have been using a temporary bench rest cobbled together from steel saw horses, 2 X 4s, and 3/4" plywood. I am wanting to build a permanent bench that I can tweek to work for me. I'd prefer to do this once.

Anyone have photos or drawings of benches they have found useful? Prefer to assemble on site, rather than build and move the whole bench.

Thanks,

Mike

A guy sells these on Craigslist for Dallas. Seems like a pretty simple design to copy.

A one and done for me would be a concrete pad, concrete/cinder block base and either a multi layer plywood top or a plywood top over a concrete top just because I wouldn't want my stuff directly on the concrete. The design of such would be easily tweakable to whatever you wanted.

Try the website of “Hench Bench” at Faith SD. It would be portable and I used one for more then 20 years shooting PDs. Not one complaint.

I have 3 of these and love them. They are steady yet lightweight.

I have a picnic table that is(was) difficult to move by myself. Galvanized frame with treated seats/top. Solution was to put it on an old snowmobile trailer. It ended up working fine as a shooting bench. Pull it around as needed with the lawn tractor. Is still fairly stable. Plus side is it is portable now, and elevated about 18 inches or so.

I think a standing bench in concrete would be about as good as you do for accuracy/testing stuff. Just as well pour a little more at a measured distance for your chronograph screens while your at it.

You gave me the idea of building the frame from 2-1'2" galvanised pipe, setting it on concrete and building a stout wooden top. I think I'll design same and see what it will cost.

I don't anticipate having to move it as I have already bulldozed a berm and scraped a road/shooting lane.
