Shipping Quote

Well in hindsight I should have done D&P and then I could have mounted the animals when I wanted, to spread the payments out. I'm heading back to SA in September and I don't think I will be bringing anything back except photos and memories. So I'm sure there will be a Buffalo hanging on my wall in the next several months. Just waiting to hear from Richard now.

Unfortunately, that's about the average quote. Same thing shipping my last crate that contained a cape buffalo

I'm waiting on a quote right now from Badger Cargo. We'll see what happens

I’m just here for the information as I have yet to make my first trip but wanted to only do euro mounts to save room and money, though it looks like even euros shipped to the door all said and done would be another trip for next year

Euros is probably your cheapest possible way to bring home trophies and it might not cost the same as another trip.

As a rough estimate, let's say you did 10 animals. Depending on the Taxidermist and if you go with them whitening (finished) or you whiten and degrease when you get home (dip and pack), let's say $2000 for "trophy prep". Shipping, around $1,500, Import broker (US side) $1,000. Total around $4,500, could round up to $5,000 to be safe. To have 10 animals euro mount trophies from your hunt, you are saving a lot of money over what you would pay for shoulder mounts. Not costing you an entire other Africa trip. And still get to bring memories home.

I'm not arguing it's cheap. Because it's not. But part of what makes Africa so expensive is that you are hunting many animals at once. It's also what makes it "cheap" on a per animal basis if you take a decent number of animals.

The euro mounts is the compromise a lot of us have come to, to still bring something home, but not equal an entire trip each time. Some people are even more economical and just take photos. I might get there someday, but I like the euro mounts, so that's tough for me to just leave it all.

Makes sense, euro mounts I do enjoy a lot.
Shoulder mounts would not be very feasible as our house is already completely full of mounts now but the euros many I do myself here take up was less room and look good.

I’m someone I hate to “waste” anything from the animal and not at least have something to represent them, but I can see where the pictures only can be an option.

AHG = African Hunting Gazette which is owned and published by Richard Lenstrum. He also owns the Afton Safari Lodge properties in Joburg and Cape Town. He started AHG Trophy Shipping because of concerns and comments from his lodging clients about the high cost of shipping trophies home and they may have to do less hunting because of those costs. Go into his website and you should be able to download a brochure he has on taxidermy and trophy solutions. I think AHG Trophy Shipping is also Craig Boddington endorsed.

Anyway, I’m not being paid by him, just found his pricing to be much better
Glad I saw this!! My trophies from last year should be ready soon and I was dreading the shipping. I recached out and recevied a quote from them based on the trophies I am getting. 7 shoulder mounts with back skin (2 waterbuck, nyala, black impala, sable, gemsbok and springbok), 5 euro (black wildebeest, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, warthog and red hartebesst) plus 4 flat skins. The quote he provided based on his calculation of crating needed is WAY less that I am seeing some people pay. I know he wont have final total until he crates them, but even if his estimate is off by $1000, it will still be less than I was expecting.

I'm currently waiting for AGH shipping to give me their quote, and I'm getting a third quote, then my decision will be made. Richard from AGH said in an email it should be no problem on getting a cheaper shipping price.

I knew it hasnt been great pricing since covid, but alot of these posts been getting me down.

I dont have a plan for a ton of trophies but a few things I want to bring home. And now that I'm finally at the stage to look at booking a hunt, it is playing on what I do.

I reached out to who I used for handling the import and hoping to hear back on their recent other imports from other hunters to guage an idea. If it crazy high, I just may be thinking about leaving it all there and be that far ahead to book another hunt.

But guaranteed I will be having the hunts filmed and/or photographed. that is timeless. my young boys and family really enjoy my film

Well I have received a different shipping price, $1000.00 dollars cheaper and $2000 cheaper if I ocean ship it. So things are getting better. A door to door price is being assembled for me too. I'll keep you posted, by the way AGH shipping gave me the best price.

I feel the pain! I’m trying to get a buff skull back from Moz. All in, by the time it gets to the house, it will be around 4k. The license to take him was only 5.5k. Shoulda been happy with just the photos. So far the email chain communicating with all parties is up to 65 and counting.

Who is your exporter out of Mozambique?

Chop Chop. Justin is a solid guy, it’s not his fault. It’s all the extras that the countries slap on. The skull is in Joberg now and the list of fees is a yard long. If I can ever afford to go again, my trophies will be photos.

I live in Alaska.
For us unwanted step children up here, shipping cost is higher (much higher) than it is to the rest of the USA.
Well, except to Hawaii as they enjoy much higher shipping costs as well.

And so, I am now with those who prefer to either just have my critters dipped and packed, instead of full taxidermy work prior to shipping, to keep the crate smaller.
That and / or just bring back photos next time.

Fortunately, after 20 something years and 7 hunting / fishing trips to Africa, my walls at home are pretty full already.

If I was young again and just starting to experience Africa, I’d be badly battered and bruised by today’s shipping costs.
My wife loves shoulder mounts (and zebra rugs.
I had to sweet talk her out of her request for a giraffe rug, even before today’s higher shipping costs.
Personally, I was not very keen to shoot a giraffe anyway.

There’s nothing wrong with hunting giraffe, as the local villagers eat every scrap of the meat plus a lot of the guts as well.
But, the animal itself has never appealed to me as something to seek anyway.

My trophies from my hunt last April are in process from RSA to the Seattle port of entry.

zebra rug .

Truck from Seattle to my location in MT has not yet been determined.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
