Phil I am looking for an exportable bull elephant to US in 2028 between 40-50 pounds any ideas please at all in $30k
Some of us, not only me, have been saying for a few years that if you want to hunt Lord Derby Eland you’d better do it as soon as you can. Cameroon’s President has been in power more than 40 years and he’s around 93-94 years old. The concern is that when he dies nobody knows if hunting will continue in Cameroon. And as of today, it’s the only place you can hunt them. You want to hunt them in January or February when they’re rutting. You can hunt them through March and into early April but it’s brutally hot (120+ Fahrenheit) and the black necks they get during the rut are diminished. January & February are the ‘Sweet Spot’.I am in the very early stages of considering/planning. I spoke with two site sponsors that do LDE hunts just to get some basic ideas of their areas and procedures for their hunts in terms of travel arrangements, bringing rifles, best time of year, current anti-poaching efforts and asked for some references to speak with regarding their hunts.
I also spoke with a very well respected AH member who has hunted LDE with a different outfitter for his advice and his experience.
The general conclusion I’ve come up with so far is if I want to hunt LDE it probably should be sooner rather than later. So, I am starting that process now.
I may or may not be able to make the hunt come together while opportunity is still available. One thing for sure is it won’t happen on its own, so I am going to try and make it happen within the next 4 years.
@Green Chile and @Andrew62, feel free to shoot me a DM and we can discuss further. I’d be especially interested your advise and experience @Andrew62 related to your unsuccessful attempt.
I probably only have one shot at this (at most) and I’d like to maximize my chances for success. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming about how cool the SCI conventions is.
