In the beginning of September i drove to Romania.
The weather was very good, and high temperatures, also the weather forecast predict nice weather, i came in for the early rut, but it would help if it was something cooler.
But anyway, after a 2 day trip i arrived at my destination in Romania, first time for me with guns that Romania is in Schengen, the border was open, and getting in Romania went smoothly.
On the way to the hotel, Marius his ranger send me an whatsapp if i wanted to go out in the evening, offcourse i wanted that.
At 5pm the ranger and his son picked me up from the hotel.
We moved to the hills, i went with the ranger to an highseat, and his son on another highseat.
Because of the good weather, the roaring started very late in the evening and wenn it was dark, we went back to the hotel.
The next morning they would pick me up at 5 am, so i had a small sleep.
We went to the hills / forrest again.
We took position in an highseat again, it wouldn’t take long before we see the first reddeer, some females close by and further away some stags.
The next days we where sometimes in the hills and sometimes in the dry lake/swamp.
In the swamp we saw in one evening more as 50 reddeer, but to far from us, and they came late.
Finally the weather changed, something colder and some rain.
At least they got more active, also with the roaring.
One morning i was with the son of the ranger, we sit in a highseat, and we saw an abnormal stag, we decided to stalked it, the minut we where from the highseat he was joined by another stag and some females.
We where getting close but some how, they dissapear.
In the evening i was in the same highseat as in the morning, but this time with the ranger.
Suddenly i see an female reddeer passing an open area, the ranger also saw it and looked with his thermal scope, directly he said stag is also coming, i had my rifle already prepared, and saw the stag coming.
The ranger makes an roaring sound with his shelf, and the stag stopped directly and starts roaring, on this moment i pulled the trigger, i could see he took the bullet, but it run away in the cover.
We waited a small time, and started looking for it, I didn’t take long and we find some blood, we followed the trail and after 80 meters it lay in the cover.
Pff, this evening the weather was hot, we got the car and get it out of the cover to makes some pics.
Just before dark everything was loaded and we where, driving back to the hotel.
The next days the weather changed hourly from sunny to cloudy and rain and wind.
In one morning we saw a very nice stag, but far away he got our wind, from our highseat, so it dissapear quickly.
Over a few days we saw many reddeer but never came to an shot.
Then we moved to a dry lake/swamp, i now the place from years before, the reddeer would come out the cover when its getting dark, we where very early, but after 5 minutes the first female reddeer came out to get some food.
After a while they went back into the cover.
Soon after that, a nice wildboar showed up.
Then i saw a stag, but he went back into the cover.
When it got later, i saw reddeer coming from al sides, but still far away.
Just before dark i saw the stag again, it had some female around him.
I was afraid, he would get our wind, but lucky they moved further away from the direction our wind was going.
Just before dark, i could place a shot at the stag, for an moment i lost it in my scope because of the muzzle flash.
But then i see it had dropped on the place where i shot it.
Pff what a release, the adrenaline was still pumping in my body, we waited a small period and called the head ranger.
He arrived soon, and we loaded the redstag, not far the place where i shot it, was small place where the slaughter the redstag.
After that we drove to the hotel.
I stayed some days for sightseeing in Oradea, and on the morning i would drive back home, i saw Marius in the morning, he arrived the evening before with 2 other clients.
We had an small chit chat and they went out for the hunt, and shortly after i started to drive home.
I was happy because i arrived early in season, and the rut started late, because of the weather, we still managed to get 2 nice stags.
Marius, many thanks for this adventure, hopefully see you more in the winter and for sure in may for the roebuck!
