For those who have followed the building and working up loading data for the 404 Jeffery here is the end result. A nice Buffalo taken at 210 yds. Load was 360 gr Atomic 29 bullet behind 86 grs of 2209 / H4350 giving 2620 fps. Animal died in its tracks with the bullet smashing all the vertical vertebrae.

Australians make some very good bullets… and not just Woodleighs.

Interesting that Atomic only makes 404 bullet in 360 gr. I believe that would be an ideal weight. But that's a lot of gas pushing your loads. Is it really necessary? Asking because I don't know. I'd like to move down in weight for a bit less recoil but somehow I don't think this recipe will do that. 400 gr Barnes X and 80 gr Accurate 4350 is almost more than I can handle. Or rather about the limit of what my retinas can handle.

$68 Aus/box of 25 = $44 US = $88 US/box of 50. Not outrageous but not cheap.

Helluva buffalo!

I fine the recoil is fine , never feel it at all when shooting at game, thinking about taking them up to 88 grs

Congratulations on a wonderful bull.

I would think that pushing a 360 grain pill much faster than 2620 fps would have minimal gains. Especially considering the pinpoint accuracy you have achieved with your current load.

If you do work up to 88 grains, keep an eye out for signs of overpressure. Safe hunting.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
