Researching dik dik hunts…

There’s an interesting subspecies in Uganda too.
Oh right, the Gunther's Dik Dik. I saw some video from WTA with some friends that hunted them there along with good buff numbers.

Poor quality photo, but here are several at water trough. This property got 2 permits per year.

I saw quite a few in Tanzania. I would suggest a 22 if you really want to shoot one. I did not shoot.

I was able to take a nice dik dik in Tanzania near Ruaha. They were quite plentiful in the area where I saw them. Flat arid sand pan with low scrub. I shot with a solid from my 375 H&H, and was told to sight two fingers behind shoulder as to not blow it up. Worked perfectly.

Let's see more photos of these cool little speedsters that some of you have taken.

I am fascinating with small mammals and their diversity. Here are images of three subspecies of dik-dik, from left to right: Silver dik-dik, Salt's dik-dik, and Günther's dik-dik. They all live in East Africa, with overlapping ranges. Notice their beautiful coats, which differ only slightly from each other. Photo credit: Charles Foley.

I've wondered if a 300 Blackout with a 150 or 165 grain bullet loaded to around 1100fps might be the ticket for some of the Tiny 10? I don't think you would get any expansion at that speed, but trajectory would limit shots to 100 yards or less.

For Klipspringer at 300 yards, something faster would be needed, maybe a 125 grain at 2200, but in thick stuff for Red Duiker, Blue Duiker, Dik Dik, etc., the 300Blk might be worth a bit of testing. :E Hmmm:

I'm following as well!

I still need Suni, Oribi, Blue Duiker and Dik Dik.
We are in almost the same boat. I lost an opportunity at klippie last year but hope to rectify that next season along with a Capes Grysbok. That would put me at 6 of 10. I hope to get suni, oribi and blue in Moz in 2 years while hunting leopard with Panther Trackers. That would only leave the Dik Dik.

Could be an option but only in a single shot or bolt gun for Africa legalities.

One issue is that no one has very many permits for them...usually 2 is what I have heard. I'm looking out a few years but that is a factor to keep in mind as there are more hunters who want them than permits available. I am going to build this whole trip around the main goal of Dik Dik. I would happily take gemsbok from their native territories along with Hartmann's zebra and springbok but the main quarry will be Dik Dik.

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,

Franco
