Proper pairing

My vote goes for a nice classic calibre 6.5 or 7 mm in 6.5x55 or 7x57. If you feel you need more than one of these, best to go on up to the 30-06.

I all!

My first post here have to be about the Swedish national caliber ;) (Yepp a swede here, so sorry about my english )

First off all im alittle split about the use off the 6,5x55 on big animal. It´s really punching above it´s weight class! But it works and works really well!
It´s the calber that have killed the most moose in the Swedish Woods (Historical speaking) i don´t think any caliber are even closed in the amount of kills! Sure it mostly because of army surplus ammo and rifles. But it´s still used and kills really well, i have even heard of some "semipro" bearhunters that have gone back to the old 6,5x55 and it´s a good medicine for hogs at night. We usally shoots smaller animals at foodstations so the shoots are usally quite easy!

So why does the 6,5x55 work so good?

The long and thin bullets seems to penetrate and keep a straight line really good but try to avoid heavier bones! Keep in mind that we "have" to use over 155grains bullets to hunt big game in sweden. (We can use lower weights but then we need to get to unhealthy speeds to meet the minimum joules)

So do i recommend the old swede! Yes i actually do even if i uses my 375H&H on moose ;). but take care and aim to avoid the heaviest bones and it will kill every time!!

Welcome to the group Daniel. I like your first post and there is no need for you to apologize. You English is no worse than some of our own.

Welcome to AH Daniel!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I have the pair you guys talking about, a 375H&H for the bigger critters and a 6,5x55 for practice and backup to the 375H&H. I must say it works good but im thinking about a 30-06 in the middle. With those three rifles/calibers your pretty much safe for any hunting anytime. The only draw back is that you only have one gun for DG. But the 30-06 can fill in for the 6,5x55 with low weight bullets and a 240gn should be good for the heavier critters (Not DG).

If you have any question about the 6,5x55 just pm or ask me, i don´t claim to know Everything but i have some good Swedish forum to go through if i don´t know or hesitate.

Ps. One of the best bullets for the 6,5x55 are the old and trustworthy Laupa Mega (A finnish bullet in the Swedish caliber :) )

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
