They make for beautiful mounted taxidermy and make a great addition to any trophy room… Here is one from AH Photo Gallery.

The ONLY animal my wife has ever told me that she would like to have a mount of in the house is a porcupine. Go figure!!!

Thanks, I have a bow hunt in June booked with AGAGIA in Namibia. hope to get I get a chance at one. they really do make beautiful mounts. Jerome thanks for posting the pictures. Forrest

If you get one make sure you have the skinner work on the fat content... they are fat little buggers

will do on the fat. thanks.Forrest

Here in Alaska, porcupine is considered a stew / soup meat favorite.
I am curious if they are considered the same in Africa ?

One of the gentlemen in my group hunted on a farm in SA for porcupine in 2012 because his wife and I wanted the quills for decorative purposes. The farm hands were thrilled because they LOVE the meat. Now I wish I had had the opportunity to taste it.

I thought the porcupine looked like very good meat, after seeing one hanging on the meat pole.

I tasted porcupine in Namibia last year....fatty and a bit like bacon.
The farmers kill them because they chew on water pipes in the irrigation systems (black polyprophylene) and cause water leaks..

They are legal to hunt but MAKE sure with your outfitter he didn't already hunted his quota -- because each outfitter is ONLY allowed to hunt 1 porquipine per year.

Huntin Africa, thank you. received a email from my outfitter today seems to be as you say. also she wasn't shure about export. Forrest

I was informed by my outfitters{atchesons} they are only importable completely tanned or fully mounted.

Hi WALKINGPREY2,

Likewise, my wife has a "bouquet" of African porcupine quills, displayed in our living room (great minds think alike).

If you ever get the chance to try the meat after it has either been thoroughly tenderized by pummeling with a mallet, or by the Alaskan standard way of stewing a long time (or both - LOL), I promise you that you will be impressed.

Properly prepared, it highly resembles the very finest pork dish imaginable.

Porcupine Trivia:
N. Am. porcupine quills make one of the best strike indicators / fishing bobbers available.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.

Clint, Porcupine are mostly nocturnal and usually not very active during the day as they stay in underground chambers. They are hunted on encounter during the day as hunting at night in Namibia is not allowed so chances of taking one are small. Hunting may not take place during the period between 30 minutes after sunset in any day and 30 minutes before sunrise the following day and the use of artificial light is also prohibited. We have a normal and good population of Porcupines in our North Western region of Namibia.

When I hunted with Makadi [Windhoek area] I saw several during the daylight hours so stay ready and hope for an encounter. Good Luck

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
