If people want to avoid Paris after what's just gone on there, that's of course up to them.

The leaves fewer tourists with whom to share one of the great cities of the world. And I'm good with that.

For me, Paris is a "been there, done that" sort of place.. I'd have to check old passport stamps.. but I'd guess Ive been there a dozen times over the last 30 years.. mostly for work.. but with that many trips in, Ive managed to see pretty much everything there is to see there to include all of the major tourist type attractions, museums, great restaurants, etc..

Thankfully all of that was many years before the latest problems that have resulted from their immigration policies..

All of that said... Ive learned not to fully trust the media when it comes to civil unrest.. For example, my wife and I were scheduled to visit Istanbul in 2013.. If you watched CNN/Fox/MSNBC they would have had you believe that the entire city was ablaze with nightly video of police water cannons hitting protestors, fires burning in the streets, etc..

We decided to go anyway after I talked to a buddy that was an RSO serving in the embassy in Greece at the time, who told me the protests were actually isolated and not near most of the tourist hot spots (old city), and only the "new palace" was in proximity of the protests..

We had a great trip.. we saw protestors exactly 1 time in the 10 days we spent in Turkey.. and that was when we went to the new palace to check things out.. we passed by the city park where they were all camped out.. other than seeing a few thousand young people milling around, lots of tents, and tons of trash on the ground.. there were actually no problems at all.. the police were there in large numbers (Id guess 500 or more).. with armored vehicles, water cannons, etc.. and had the protest completely contained inside the park.. and were essentially allowing the young people to raise hell, as long as they didnt attempt to take it outside of the park...

Im going to guess much of whats happening in Paris, Milan, and other cities right now is indeed violent and bad... but also isolated.. if it wasnt, we'd be seeing a much larger deployment of police and military to control things..

I hope all you older guys had fun visiting Europe when it was still good. Because now that I can sort of afford to do such things I suddenly have ZERO desire. I certainly wouldn't feel safe sending any females there alone. I feel Africa is safer and money better

Ridiculous. Just stop watching all the propaganda videos on here and you’ll be fine. My wife and I have been to Europe a dozen times. We’re going again next summer. The greatest crime we've seen is her boss got his phone taken by a pick-pocket, and had to chase him down, on a train. He didnt have to run far. The police cared little, and didn’t even bother arresting the guy.

Knock yourself out. The world’s MSM reports mostly peaceful protests. At one time I was interested in visiting some of my relatives in England and Scotland that I can track back to about 550 AD. No more, I’ll pass. Never lost anything in the rest of Europe- so zero interest.

Kirby, who took home about $32.3 million in total compensation in fiscal year 2025, made the remarks when asked about declining public trust in corporate executives during an interview with The New York Times.

But of course when I lived in California I was in many Mexican retail stores that did a brisk business in wiring money from the US to Mexico, so no they were not pouring everything back into the US economy. Maybe immigrants from other countries don't send money back to their families, but I doubt it.

Just got home from Dearborn and Detroit.

Got to hear two different calls to prayer while driving through Dearborn this AM. My Arabic is getting much better.

Detroit is fine if it’s cold out and you stay out of the “Red zones” after hours.

Im down there all the time. In the worst areas by myself. You learn how to act in those environments and you’re fine.

It’s the neighborhoods that are categorized as the red zones that you need watch what time of day you’re in there. Especially if you act and look like a prey animal.
