In regard to unity, I think this country is past the point of no return.
Today's Democrat party is terrified by the thought of it.
They fan the flames with hate and division.

There are millions of Big Easy 's out there
I hope not but fear that possibility. BigEasy is not a one of. He represents an unknown “many”. I believe our country is being threatened directly, internally. Do any in the Democrat party come out and slam the likes of Piker? Nope! Pay attention to what they are saying. Ignore them at our peril! That’s one of the reasons simply ignoring the likes of BigEasy is a fool’s errand… like whistling through a graveyard. I will continue slam all the BigEasys out there by what ever method of my choosing that I believer may have some impact. They arm themselves with endless AI generated counterpoints that will forever muddy any logical debate. Beware of that debate technique! I prefer to use non-AI generated points of view, personally known facts that have a chance to defeat an opposing debate that uses pure, Borg collective data compilation… the Borg collective is a way, IMO, to understand AI.

The only ones using AI appears to be you guys. I've seen many google- and AI-based screen-shots on here. FYI, those are not sources, anymore than facebook is. My arguments are backed up by math based sources, and cited on this very forum. If you find any of my sources to be wanting for facts or validity, please point out which source specifically you believe is not factually correct.

The left has always believed what it wants to believe, facts can be changed to fit the narrative.

I would add Pompeo to the list of potential R Candidates who can be unifying. The guy is intelligent too.
I don’t know about him being unifying. I don’t have a problem with him but I do not believe anyone that was a head of the cia is going to be popular with the majority of the left or right in today’s world. I could be wrong but three letter agencies as a whole have not been popular for over a decade with the masses of either side.

If that list of democrats are the best ww can do even i would vote for a Republican which makes me ill after Trump.

Don't give up hope, there are a handful of honest democrats that truly want the best for this country. A smart Republican will hire the best democrats. I was pleased that Trump selected Tulsi Gabbard for a period of time. I donated to Bobby Kennedy's campaign not because we agreed on every issue, but he is doing real work to break regulatory capture of our health and nutrition which is a top domestic issue. If not for the donations to Kennedy, he wouldn't of had the voting block that got Trump the win in exchange for Bobby getting HHS. Kristin Sinema and Joe Manchin are competent democrats as well that could come out of retirement for the right administrative roles as well.

Personally, I would be likely to vote for the GOP primary candidate in 2028 that gets an endorsement from or whom agrees to keep Bobby Kennedy in their cabinet.

Sadly, I do not think the Democrat party is salvageable as an institution. They abandoned the skilled labor workers and white southern middle class to Trump and decided they'd let the socialists and nut jobs drive their party platform. A 1992 Bill Clinton democrat party platform candidate would win 70% of the vote but those values are not allowed in the DNC anymore. Those platform positions would now be centrist GOP.

You and I are on opposite ends of the political spectrum… but we often see eye to eye.. it’s kinds of a cool dynamic in my opinion..

I’ve been pretty clear in the past… there is a lot I don’t like about Trump.. but given the choice between Harris and a moldy grapefruit.. I’d vote for the grapefruit… which is why Trump got my vote…

The D party’s biggest problem IMO is the most vocal members of the party like Newsome, Harris, AOC, etc are every bit as divisive as Trump.. and just as much out on the fringe…

It’s going to take a long time, or another major unifying event like 9/11 before the country starts coming back together again if both parties keep moving to the far left and right rather than trying to find some middle ground..

I’m hopeful someone like Rubio is who ends up on the top of the next R ticket rather Vance.. while I think Rubio (as an example only.. it doesn’t have to be him specifically) he is far more unifying and closer to a centrist than some of the other potential R candidates..
I also think of Rubio as more moderate. I could support him especially based on the perceived competition. There is a bit of time til the gamesmanship start.

I [maybe 1 of a few] cannot unify or identify, or group think, or reach across the ile to the democrat party platform or those individuals who support it , they are against things I believe to be damning to the country and the soul . THEY are doing everything they can to remake this country into a third world
bastion of communism, or socialism, if you prefer that word. If that makes me part of the problem so be it, no compromise .at least no more thn has already been done.

Eat more chicken , you may have seen that sign along the hiways of America featuring a big Holstien cow.
well there may not be a choice if things continue as they are now, the smallest cattle population since 1954 and getting smaller, and the population of people has quadrupled or more. The gov.com plan is to import south American cattle. whats wrong with that? well here are a couple things. Its exasperating the problem, a country that cannot provide food for its citizens has a major deficit. If everyone eats chicken it will be in short supply and 1 good bird flu epidemic and ?
The last time I heard the death tax on inherited farms and ranches , was close to 50% way more than a son or daughter can pay , a ranch that cost 250,000 in say 1965 is now worth 2 ,3 ,4 ,5,6, million and big ones go for 59 ,60, 70 million. more than an inheritor can pay, so sell out is the only answer. much easier than taking on a bunch of problems. with only 1 payoff a year.
The 3rd thing , at least in the west of the rockies ,is the anti ranching attitude of the BLM and usfs, that has slightly changed but it is very entrenched in ths frorest service and BLM. Grazing cows on Gov. land is no longer expectable to the educated under 49 crowd, why should it be allowed you ask , many reasons, 1, ranches were here first using the land before Mr Roosevelt started the parks and natl land , and he himself was a rancher. why should it be for running quads all over every hill and valley, why should it be for mining, say reason its for multiple yuse. 3 Graving reduses fire potential to spread like, well like wild fire. same reason logging is good for the forest, use it or it burns. Ive personally seen ranchers shut out of grazing for the sake of wild [ really feral] horses or wolves.
so if you think beef is high now , just wait.

The estate tax exemption is $30 million. And after that, the rate is 40%. That’s also assuming these people don’t use a trust to avoid all that in the first place. You’re also asking Americans who don’t even own a home to be concerned with the plight of somebody who just inherited a $70 million ranch…You understand how ridiculous that sounds right.

Your math shows your lack of understanding of farming. Real world example, my nextdoor neighbors have 1700 acres. It's worth $14-$17 million. That's to sell it to another farmer adjacent and those transactions come up every 50-150 years. What is the net income for the young farmer that does all the work? $60k a year. What is the net income for the elderly brothers that inherited it from their grandfather and bought a bit more along the run? $60k a year each. That's how lean a row crop farmer's operation is in this era. They have two $700k combines that last about 7 years. They have a half million in grain bins and dryers which isn't enough capacity. Probably about another million in tractors, sprayers, gravel pickers, utility tractors, pole sheds and machine sheds.

You nor I would trade our lifestyles and incomes to live like they do in a very dated old farmhouse. The pay sucks. But if they sell the asset or are forced to sell the asset, they do not have a livelihood any longer.

Farming sucks by all angles of math. Its a calling, but it is an economically stupid profession. Farmers know this, its just their identity to produce food for society even though its the lowest possible value of their time monetarily.

So extrapolating your logic, if they owned not a $17m farm but a $68m farm, they'd theoretically be bringing in $240k a year each, but of course farming does not scale that way whatsoever, it would probably be about $120k each per year in income at 4x the scale due to increased labor costs. They are not rich, they just own the means of production of food. The DSA wants to take away that means of production via inheritance tax they could never pay, it is the oldest communist trick in the book.

Either your Wisconsin land is some of the worst in NA or your neighbours are doing some very creative accounting (which farming accountants are great at, my parents had an amazing one).

The farmland in Western WI in the driftless region isn't particularly good compared to the southern area of the State. Small pieces of land. Lots of rocks and gravel. Shallow topsoil. No pivots or irrigation. Typically worth $8500-$12,000 an acre. Typical yields are 200 bushel per acre for corn. Corn at <$4 a bushel makes for a terrible living. The seasonal weather is rough enough everyone has to dry their grains, propane eats a ton of profits. (it leaves the fields >18% moisture)

It’s pretty mind blowing when one actually takes the time to stop and think of the real world effects on topography glaciation had during the ice age.

I will admit I know nothing about corn other than the fact it’s good silage in my area, and my parents talk about 300 bushel an acre number from their American snowbird friends. We were canola and wheat farmers mostly.

I still say $60k is the amount he “chooses” to pay himself because that’s all he really needs and is either paying down his land as quickly as he can (essentially supercharging his retirement plan), or leaving the money in the business to shelter it from income tax.

In other hot topics, what amount of public surveillance will we accept as a western society. It’s bad enough that everything we do on our phones or say in their vicinity get fed back to the algorithms, and that every house has cameras all around. Do we need cameras on every corner?

Your math shows your lack of understanding of farming.
I know plenty about how unprofitable farming typically is. That's why my fathers family sold their's off and never looked back. My comment was factually correct. The original post was not. The max exemption is still $30 million. The USDA estimated in 2022 that only 87 farms pay any amount of estate tax in any given year. A farm valued at $2-6 million is not going to be paying a 50% estate tax, or any tax for that matter.
You nor I would trade our lifestyles and incomes to live like they do in a very dated old farmhouse. The pay sucks. But if they sell the asset or are forced to sell the asset, they do not have a livelihood any longer.
Your assumption precludes the possibility of purchasing a smaller farm, or the idea that they even still want to be farmers.
Farming sucks by all angles of math. Its a calling, but it is an economically stupid profession. Farmers know this, its just their identity to produce food for society even though its the lowest possible value of their time monetarily.
Nobody is forcing them to choose that profession. In America, one has the agency to choose their profession.

I never opined about the labor costs, nor the profitability of a hypothetical farm operation. The post and reply were about taxation.
They are not rich
If you own a $68 Million farm, you would be in the top 0.1% of net worth nationally, higher than 99.9% of the entire country, and 99.99% internationally.
