Keeping the economy closed 18 months longer than necessary under Biden collapsed the supply side. Then he printed and handed out billions.
What specifically was closed? Restaurants, Bars, Nightclubs, Gyms, etc? Then no. Most places to eat opened by the end of 2020 in NC, and by early 2021 everything else was open for business here as well. Schools went back to in-person in either March/April of 21, or August of 21 here in NC. Thats not "keeping the economy closed for an extra 18 months." I also don't count needing to wear a mask as the economy being closed.
People were paid more to sit home than they made it work
No, they weren't. The total amount of stimulus money given to most American's was $3,200. Thats not much money over the course of an entire year; March 2020 - March 2021. Are you referring to unemployment benefits? Because here in NC they max out at $350/week. The median full time worker earned between $800 - $1,000/week in NC in 2021.
They were buying toys and spending money like drunken sailors
The payments req's were poorly conceived and not targeted to the citizens that needed the money the most. Just because a portion of the population was able to increase their disposable income and spend on wants, and not needs, doesn't mean the average American could.
Too many dollars chasing two few goods drove the cost of everything up.
54% of the cost increases (inflation) during the pandemic were due to increases in corporate profits. Only 8% was an increase in Labor costs...Gotta feed the stock market and make new records somehow...right?
Employers needing to get people back to work, had to pay more than the government was paying them driving prices up even more
Again, labor increases were less than 10% of the total cost increases. $350 bucks a week isn't enough to keep people on the labor sidelines, anyone living here in NC would never be able to afford their bills on $350/week. And remember, that is the
max unemployment, not the average received. The average unemployment benefit here for 2020-21 was approx. $223/week. So $900 a month? That doesn't even pay the rent/mortgage.
Unless you find a magical way to get people to voluntarily take less pay now, prices are never coming back down
Prices wont come down because that means that corporate profits would have to voluntarily decrease, and that's not going to happen. Shareholder Value Theory wont allow it.
Once again, the Democrats broke it and guess who has the answer to fix it.
Democrats didn't break anything.
But now they call themselves Democrat socialist.
Only 17-20% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters claim to be democratic socialists. Democratic Socialist ≠ Socialist ≠ Communist.
