Politics

Right. And what university gave you a degree in political history? The "flip" is generally acknowledged among scholars. Real scholars anyway. There was no "sudden jump up". The transition started during Kennedy/Johnson administration and more or less completed during Carter administration. Do your homework.
Done the homework, have you? Read the Party Platforms.

What was it you said in your post?

"those who are less inclined to distort the facts to fit political agendas."

Well the truth is so called "Historians" like yourself seem to be the MOST inclined to twist facts to fit political agendas.

The same groups of self appointed Einsteins are telling students that biological men can menstruate.

You, and others like you have ZERO CREDIBILITY!(n)

I think in completely different terms when I know bad weather is on the horizon...

I think power generation and disaster recovery (downed tree on the house.. or inability to evacuate afterwards, etc)..

I have enough generator power available to pretty much power my entire house and I keep enough fuel on hand to keep those generators running for 72 hours straight if needed...

I have a couple of chainsaws and other tools on hand that can get me out of most forseeable predicaments...

and I have a 4WD truck with a covered bed that can go anywhere I ask it to...

Food and TP are never an issue for me... Im by no means a "prepper".. but I am reasonably prepared for a week or two long event at any time... We tend to buy in bulk from places like COSTCO and SAMS.. Theres always at least one or two 5lb bags of dried beans, a 5lb bag or two of dried rice, several boxes of dried pasta, etc.. on the shelves.. and I think the last time we had less than a dozen rolls of TP and a dozen rolls of paper towels in the house would have been the early 90's... Theres never less than a couple of cases of water in the panty as well..

I also keep comprehensive medical supplies in the house and decent kits in all vehicles..

I find it funny that every time a major winter storm shows up in the forecast that all of my neighbors fill their minivans with water, TP, and other staples... and are in a panic.. they literally buy months of supplies....

Never once did I wonder how I was going to feed myself or wipe my ass during COVID... no 3" snow storm in north texas is going to have me hungry or walking around with a dirty butt hole lol..

A couple of years ago when we had a big storm coming in I saw my neighbor bringing in a huge 50lb bag of rice that he had gotten at COSTCO..

I asked him how he was going to prepare the rice when his pipes froze and the power grid went down for 3 days due to the storm...

his eyes got huge and he went straight into panic mode lol..

I told him I'd trade him the use of a little 1000 watt inverter generator that Ive got for a 50lb bag of rice...

He didnt think that was all that funny lol...
That's a good start. We call power outages here "EMP drills". Our plan is to be able to hunker down for the first 3 months and see what survives after that. Snow, Anything less than 6", we just ignore.

James Talarico has ZERO chance of wining the senate race in Texas.
I hope you are correct but Republicans shouldn't underestimate Talarico. He was my state representative until we were redistricted and he still has a great deal of support if only because he has a"D" behind his name. IMO he was a terrible Rep. and I do not want him as senator but Paxton is hated by many people and if Republicans and Independents don't turn out for him it could hand the election to Talarico. Remember, Beto, as bad as he was, came pretty close to unseating Cruz. Again, IMO, Paxton ,for all his faults, will be much better for Texas than Talarico but his election won't be a slam dunk.

Same here, we have 4 freezers full of meat and some produce. I keep my tractor full of diesel and enough gas available for our portable generators running do up to 10 days. The pantry stays stocked with canned goods, rice and beans. Our only worry is water as our well is difficult to run off of generator power so we do stock up on water at the beginning of hurricane season or if a storm is imminent. Our stove and oven is natural gas so no worries there.
Having lived in Minnesota and South Dakota and now on the Gulf coast I prefer winter weather emergencies over tropical weather emergencies.

We do need to invest in a generator that can run the whole house but that’s a whole other can of worms.
In a long term event, you can manually pull water out of your well with a simple 1 way float valve attached to a length of 2" PVC and some paracord/rope (unless your well is really deep), just be familiar with how to pull the existing pump out of the well so you can access the water. Also, be prepared to filter anything you manually pull out of the well to assure yourself of clean/sanitary water long term.

The EcoZoom Rocket stove can boil a large pot of water in under 20 minutes using only a couple handfuls of small sticks (this is my emergency cooking source) and very cheap insurance.

So, Trump has sway over Canadian voters? I wouldn't have expected that, or maybe they were just low information voters?

AJ

Basically it was a series of unfortunate events, the liberals called a snap election the entire campaign was on just over 30 days , trump chose that time period go off on a tangent about the 51st state which combined with a very very well done series of attack ads by the liberals managed to turn the tide on what was at one point shaping up to be conservative majority. Combine that with my own m.p and several others crossing the floor and mark carney managed to buy himself a majority. There was also dirty political moves played such as the redrawing of political areas and the metre long ballet in poilievres riding.

I’m not now or have I ever stating that trump was the only factor in carneys win Ive simply stated multiple times that he was a factor and should have stfu and stayed out of Canadian politics. There is no way that someone wasn’t annualizing the effects his comments were having on Canadian politics and informing him and he choose to continue there by choosing to effect an election.

The conservatives also failed to pivot fast enough when trade became the issue of the election.

No of course not spike preppers are socially ostracized , were just a mildly eccentric group of gentleman with moderate to large gun collections who like to be prepared for any contingency and who all seem to have verying levels of distrust and criticism for the government. I don’t know how you could possibly confuse us with “preppers”

I would imagine the most hardcore prepper on this forum is less of a "prepper" than the average white Zambian or Zimbabwean going about their normal day.

For those of you who consider a 10k generator insufficient and require a 25k to meet your household needs, I'm wondering what your needs are. A survey of our home shows the items that use 220v are an electric oven- both elements in use 10k; clothes dryer, water heater and central air conditioner all at 5k each. the 110v appliances use 50 - 500w. With planning- either not using the oven for cooking or reducing competing sources, we find the 10k generator to be completely adequate. We haven't run it 24 hours/non-stop but those time we have run it during power outages, most of the time in operation it was barely above idle having minimum output- that is, the 220 appliances were only occasionally in operation.

I'm wondering what appliances/facilities require a 25k generator.
Ditto, however we have survived fine using Honda 2kw Inverter generators (alternating at fuel fill intervals) for a week at a time. What we really NEED in cold weather is a couple lights and the fan that blows air through the fireplace insert, the refrigerator and freezer. I keep things going for less than 2 gallons of gasoline/day. Summertime I just need to keep the Fridge, freezer and sump pump going. If all else fails, my neighbor has a Generac and I have enough extension cord long enough to survive easily. Water here is no issue and I have plenty of filtration and easy to heat water etc. for cooking. I don't sweat living without massive electricity generation at all.

It's no doubt that Paxton *should* win, if only because he's the R candidate in a majority R state. The danger, as expressed by many, is if R's don't show up to vote in November.

Texas should always take it seriously. I’m sure there was a time when California was western, cowboy country, considered a safe bet. Just look at Arizona.

Maybe that will be the next revelation. ;)

I just want enough to run a few lights and the heat so the pipes don’t freeze. Most of our outages are winter storm related.
Running central heat is a pretty big burden…

But a fairly small (portable) inverter generator would run a small space heater or two and a couple of lights..

Something like a 5kw will probably get that done (although those heaters draw a lot of power)..

If you’re worried about pipes, something like a little buddy propane heater is probably a better option… super small and portable… quiet… and you can easily place in exactly the area you want heat focused…

For long outages, knowing how to drain the pipes in your house (perhaps leaving a single faucet in a basement available ...) can lower the heating requirements for surviving a cold snap.

The Buddy heaters work pretty well and you can get stove fans for them that will circulate the heat.

Be careful using older or less quality portable generators. Many generate “dirty” voltage that will burn up sensitive circuit boards found
In most modern appliances and central air and heat.

Microwaves are easily damaged by low quality generators without devices to cleanup the sine waves

This is absolutely true. Its even a problem with power from your utility. I remember owning a Sub-Zero fridge/freezer fifteen years ago. It was an expensive purchase and it continued to fail intermittently since I bought it. They replaced the main board two or three times in as many weeks and odd problems kept coming back.

It ended up that ComEd had dirty power and it was freaking out my fridge. The solution was installing a filter/surge protector at the outlet which solved the problem.

Dirty power is a real problem and its amplified using generator power. I keep my server and other sensitive items on a UPS surge / line conditioner to avoid these problems.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
