Politics

I was not under the impression either show was to be family friendly. More about politics and staying away from sexual orientation was the TPUSA show. Bad Bunny is a sexual freak. The SB halftime show was horrible. This is still a predominantly English speaking country. Goodell screwed up. We won’t see something this pathetic in the future for a while.
My understanding was that the theme of the competing show was "Faith, Family and Freedom."

I don't think Kid Rock remotely represents two of those.

The NFL, as I said above, is all about money far as I can tell.

For a lot of the hardcore MAGA folks if one is not a white Christian then they are not considered American. Similar views with the KKK or Proud Boys.
Not a surprising comment, coming from you.
Bad bunny would no doubt be a good fit for the Commiefornia culture.

I remember the 1986-1987 (lasted till early ‘90s) US Savings and Loan bankruptcies and the subsequent financial disaster. If I recall correctly, a couple hundred people involved went to prison for fraud. Yet, with the later and much greater financial disaster and accompanying fraud in the 2008 housing collapse and subsequent Great Recession, I’m not sure anyone involved went to prison for anything? As a financial layperson and having been affected by both events, maybe a/some financial expert(s) here can explain the disparity between these two events related to the apparent lack of criminal prosecutions during the latter financial disaster. Thanks!

The S&L crises was a carry over from the oil bust of the 80’s. Banks went down as well but were primarily in oil states. Continental Illinois and SeaFirst were the only two significant banks outside the oil states. S&L’s in oil states were already in trouble. Nationally S&L’s bought junk bonds from Drexel Burnham and other Wall Street firms causing most of the problems. The S&L’s were considered insignificant enough to force them to liquidate for the most part, covering much of the insolvency.

2008 everyone was considered to big to fail so they were bailed out with tax payers left holding the bag.

While I am pretty conservative in regard to gun rights, fiscal policy etc., I am pretty laissez faire when it comes to social issues, I believe in live and let live. By the way, what does communism have anything to do with sexual orientation etc.? Peter Thiel is gay, but a conservative. Do you hate him as well?

then, as has been stated over and over again.. you havent done your research...

Faith- he is a "new" Christian.. but he clearly is making public his faith and has been for a little less than 2 years.. on the TPUSA show one of the comments he made was "Give your life to Jesus, and he will give you a second chance"...

Freedom - there is zero question that Kid Rock is all about freedom.. many of his songs are about freedom.. many of his public statements spanning his 25+ year career in music have been about freedom.. etc..etc.. hes built his career around redneckery and freedom.. its pretty much his signature move.. Born Free, We The People, American Rock and Roll, Warrior, Dont Tell Me How to Live.. all have a strong "freedom" theme in them..

Family - I suppose that depends on your definition of family.. its undisputed that he is a devoted father.. he is also incredibly close to his mother and always has been.. he struggled with his relationship with his father early in his career (Dad didnt approve), but its well documented that he was very close with his father in the last several years of his fathers life (Dad died in Feb 2024).. he has publicly referred to his father as "my most trusted advisor", "Daddy Rock", and "My Rock".. When his father died, in his tribute to his father he referred to him as "incredible" among other things.. Both Rock and his father acknowledged their strained relationship through Rocks teens and 20's and early 30's was tied to his father not liking that he was playing hip hop music, and Rock resenting his fathers "workaholic" nature and that he spent more time working than with his wife and son when he was growing up (pretty common reasons for family strife I would think)..

he certainly has had some tragic relationships in his past life.. but again, look at the faith comment above.. thats a past life.. and part of a journey that ended and has been replaced by a new one.. he was formerly married to Pamela Anderson.. who acknowledges thier 4 month relationship was all about "fun" and once the fun wore off they got a divorce.. they however maintained contact and were friends until by Pamelas own admission, Rock became more "conservative" and at that point she didnt want to communicate any longer.. and then we have Audrey Berry, his girlfriend of 16 years, who he admittedly never married.. but.. that relationship ended at an unknown time in late 2024.. he was engaged to her for the last 8 years of that relationship and by all accounts was faithful to her through the entire relationship.. it is speculated that that relationship ended because he has changed his life, moved toward Christian faith and she wasnt ready to do that herself... what the real truth is however no one really knows.. Ritchie (Rock) has purposefully kept that relationship much more low profile than previous relationships, and neither Rock nor Berry have said anything publicly about the dissolution of the relationship..

I don't hate anybody. Hate is an ugly thing.
I despise many people, but don't hate them.

On that loss of refining capacity.
Much of it is due to a certain left coast State that is incapable of self governance. It's been going on for some time.

Im honestly surprised several larger businesses (those that can afford it) havent challenged CA's "breakup" penalties that they charge for closing business in the state.. especially those that were established in CA long before the penalties became part of the landscape..

If I were Valero, I'd be closing down shop, telling California to pound sand on their $1.1B in penalties.. letting them sue me over it, appealing decisions all the way to the USSC if I had to, all the while counter suing the state of CA in a more friendly court and let CA then appeal those decisions all the way to the USSC if they chose to..

The fact that CA can tax you into non profitability, regulate you to the point of misery, and then financially damage you for chosing to no longer do business in their state at a loss is beyond my understanding..

there is a reason my firm refuses to bid on any US government work in California.. we refuse to deal with the insane labor law and the insane regulatory environment.. we simply will not go there under any circumstances..

I count myself lucky that I never cared much for (televised) sports events. Especially after the last 6 pages! :D

They might not be able to sever the CA business and be liable for further taxes etc. while the lawsuit is pending. So, might be cheaper in the long run.

Are there positives or negatives to this? Or will the status quo be maintained?

The Reuters article only tells part of the story..

Whats going on is really more of a reshuffling than anything else..

Its turning over command of 2 posts to European officers.. but its taking over command of all of NATO's naval assets at the NATO command post in the UK.. that puts a US flag officer ultimately in control of all of NATOs Naval, Air, and Land assets. and the US retains the top command position for all of NATO with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe position..

This essentially puts European flag officers in a few more subordinate leadership positions than they held prior.. but puts US flag officers in all 4 of the top positions across the alliance..

California continues to exceed expectations on stupidity. I don’t know who they think will make CARB gasoline if they lose their refineries. Those of you in California had better brace for dramatically higher fuel prices if this continues.

For those who don’t know, California has their own ‘special’ fuel specs, California Air Resources Board, CARB, specs. These specs are much more stringent than the rest of the nation and no longer produce environmental benefit with new engine technologies, but there ya go. Anyway, you cannot meet these specs with a barrel of crude oil, so out of state refineries ship high grade intermediates to California refineries, and California refineries ship low grade intermediates back to them. And who gets to pay? Californians. Now take some of these Californian refineries out of production and who makes this ridiculous product and what are they going to charge for it? I’m glad I don’t live there!

I can't complain. Since 1994 a part of our business have been CEMS and SCAQMD reporting for anyone having stacks. Now closed Phillips refineries had been our client for over 30 years. Also, since 1994 4 refinery clients have closed their doors.

SCAQMD also forced LA county to shut down their cogen plant due to emissions permitting. It had a jet engine using natural gas for fuel. Now, they are buying power from power plants with higher emissions limits. Go figure.
