Poachers Paraphernalia

@spekieries - More Oom, I would have loved to see what the Bay looked liked when you moved here. Every time I have the opportunity to look at the wall photograph that is in the Richards Hotel, Eshowe, I do so. It is quite amazing to see how the harbor looked like before any construction took place. I believe the photograph was taken nearly a 100 years ago. Some things has however not changed much.... we still encounter Hippo and Crocs in the canal and did we catch a 2m crock wondering the streets of Meer-en-See not too long ago. If you visit the Golf course you will see the resident croc at the water hole at the 8th green, so too does the Hippo wonder the course every night whilst grazing much to the dismay of the greens keeper.

Interestingly enough though, with the drought the lake's level dropped significantly and did the locals start wondering the shores searching for scrap metal - only to find ordinance that dropped off Catalina Air Boats that landed / took off from the lake during World War 2, including what some believed was a torpedo. The bomb squad had their hands quite full getting rid of it all and eventually did an entire sweep of the lake using metal detectors. Scary stuff.

I wish to thank you all for the interest shown in the Paraphernalia, the knobkierie and Okapi has now found a loving new home each and I am sure that they are looking forward to be welcomed at their new homes in the U.S.

Regards,
Boela.

Dankie Boela. No problem I was caught napping.

Good day all,

I came across a small group of poachers hunting on private land the weekend and during the process of chasing them off, I recovered a decorated Knob Kierie (Used to hit and kill any caught animal). I also recovered a Okapi folding knife during a previous incident with a poacher.
If there is any AH member that would like some authentic African Poachers paraphernalia to decorate their trophy room with, give me shout.

Regards,
Boela.

@Boela , how's this for a few poachers bullets taken out of an elephant. Spot the re enforcing bar.

@TMS, It is quite sad to think in how much pain that poor animal must have been in, I don't even want to start thinking about the number of other animals currently walking around the bush with similar wounds. No wonder you find people killed due to "unprovoked charges".
Thank you for the pics, it is appreciated.

I just received the Poachers Knife thank you very much. How may I repay your kindness

Good day Rob,

Please see the knife as a early Christmas gift from Africa :D Beers:

Regards

@TMS.

Simon, I wish to thank you Sir for all the trouble you went through in getting the gin traps to South Africa and meeting up with my contact in Harrismith. It is greatly appreciated to say the least. I trust that I may one day have the opportunity to return the favour.

I will keep AH up to date once the decorative idea I have for them is complete.

Yours in hunting.

You welcome, it was a pleasure.

Nice job Simon!!

It would be great to see a pile of snares, gin traps and assorted other devices in a booth at DSC next year. Get the press to show what legal hunting does to combat poaching. Would be interesting at least. Could offer them as a door prize at the next AH dinner

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
