Peter Hofer Video

Peter Hoffer doubles are in line with London bespoke guns, in pricing.

This is from magazine "The Field"

I read somewhere that huge double was priced over a million pounds. Good grief.

Some very stunning works of art though. Some took over 14 years to complete . The patience needed for that . Some people on this earth just operate on a different wavelength .

Magnificent. I'd be afraid to even take one outdoors. Say nothing about going into the bush. They are made to hang on the wall and drool over.

Read this article, just reading it made my shoulder hurt. It's his 4 bore magnum, yes you read it correctly MAGNUM

They call it a magnum in the article but in reality it is not marketed as such by the gun maker. Here is a pic of that gun I had taken at the SCI show a few years ago.

I cannot imagine 300+ ft lbs of recoil out of a 4 bore magnum I, likely, am not brave enough to shoot that level of shoulder cannon.

During a trip to England a few years back I stopped at the Purdey store in London and spent an hour chatting with Simon Rood. There was no one in the store competing for his attention so he gave me a thorough description of their work. It was a highlight of that trip.

I would say Peter Hofer is a master mind in gun designing. He is in his own league not yet been reached by no one in the world. Peter takes on the most difficult tasks where others would throw in the towel. Peter not only solve mechanical enigmas, he also makes them look graceful with the best finish that can possibly be made.

Peter Hofer is possibly the only gunmaker inthe world who will take on any job asked for. Just imagine wishing for a 6 barreled .22lr with select trigger to fire the shots one at the time or all 6 in one go and the gun will like like a crown jewell when you recieve it. Thats where Peter Hofer will say “yes I can do this” where everybody else has said no.

Beautiful for sure, but strength? I didnt see a single Greener bolt.

Thanks for the informationand the pics. Absolutely stunning gun, beautiful

I enjoyed the video. Whoever produced/directed it seems to be more interested in the embellishment aspect though. I'm more of a nuts and bolts guy.

That is correct sir.

And:
a.)
You need somebody to buy it
This so-calles super-guns are on display for years, show for show, nobody buy it
Then they get - as we say in Germany - "for 25% of the price, but in silence, under the table"
b.)
Dont expect that they are "accurate" and "safe"
I have tested some of these super-guns (and I dont mean P.H. in person)...
The results are often not so good as you want (or think/wish before)
Because they make only 1 or 2 of that section (and then work on totaly other sytems or they buy it from other gun-maler and bring them together), so they dont have the expirience

If I can get someone an tip:
Go to an good Company/gunmaker, ceck that they made this kind of guns on an regulary basis, test some used models and bought an new one, on your specifications.
If you have the money, get all the extras and higher wood classes, pp. ... as you want, you can make an invest up to 600.000 E., but you get an functional, accurate and safe gun.

Stunning works of art, all. Beautiful.

However, I am surprised that none of them had checkering on their stocks. Does anyone know the reason he doesn’t checker his wood stocks. I am sure there is a reason but that made them look a bit unfinished to me.

Because:
a.)
Some collectors want it so.
b.)
The checkering will make to the spesifications (measuring) of the owner.

Yeah, I realize they are made to customer specs and the patron can order whatever they want. I was just surprised that they didn’t have their stocks checkered.

Doesn’t take away from the beautiful rifles and shotguns. Just an observation

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
