Pelican prerogatives - 1750 vs 1700 for int'l travel - experiences wanted

Pelican Blaser case. I am not sure about the Negrini cases. I have one but have never flown with it.

Negroni are not travel cases. Best for taking a gun to the range etc.

We didn't have room for a matchbook on the flight back to Harare!

That was so funny! We were crammed in there like sardines. Can't do that on departure from HRE however. Security can stop us for blocking an exit. But on return we did it!

Guys we are talking about 5 of us with 5 suitcases, backpacks, and hard gun cases cramming in a twin engine Navajo for our departure from the Omay a couple years back. Our cute little blonde pilot just tiptoed over all those cases and locked the back door and we were off! What an adventure.

Jusy flew with a Sauer 404 Negrini case no issues at all.

My first eight trips to Zim I had a vault for two rifles. Waaaay to heavy and cumbersome. Purchased a Pelican 1700 in grey, stenciled "Box 2 of 4" on each side as (hopefully) a deterrent to theft.
Obviously, it worked. Fifteen trips later, the 1700 was always there to be collected.

I have a 1750 - the double rifle case with wheels. It's been traveled with quite a bit. Truck, roof, trunk, airlines, etc. Solid piece of equipment. A little long in the tooth and covered in scratches and stickers.
I recently upgraded to a blaser r8 and will probably take it solely on international travel. Perhaps domestic airline travel as well. So going to a shorter case is now and option and I'm looking at the 1700.

Question for the experienced - is it really worth another $300+ to go to a Pelican 1700 to lose approx 9-10" in length?
I realize the 1750 is in the gray area of published airline luggage size allowances and it's heavier and "looks like a gun case" but I'm guessing the 1700 gets the same looks.

So is it worth it to drop about 4 pounds of weight and 10" in length for the 1700 or just go with what I got?
How important (and how effective) is stepping a little further away from the optics of "that looks like a gun case?"

Going to Africa, not worth the money. Going to Europe get the 1700. It was a pain hauling around a 1750.

I think you answered your own question, you purchased an R8 and plan for it to be your main travel rifle. Blaser spends your money quite quickly, what's another $300!

I did the same thing for the same reasons, even purchased an R8 for my son's 21st birthday, it seems that the Pelican 1700 is a great match. Here is a photo of ours, we are getting ready for a May South Africa trip. One LH rifle and one RH.

Late to the party as usual but I have a 1750 that has been many places on a plane and it will be going to Africa because I am taking 2 guns.

I did buy a 700 Vault to make my Q Fix with a folding stock a much more portable package. A smaller package is easier to transport and doesn't scream gun.
