I think I remember hearing that the big boys had to go back to San Fransisco for fresh barrels
after each Naval engagement

The navy kept plenty of spare barrels at various Naval yards including the Washington Naval yard. Im Not sure how many rounds each barrel was good for but if you read the history of of each ship you will note frequent refits and time spent in the dry dock. Boiler reworks and barrel change outs no doubt took place during those visits to the yard.

That's not exactly true. While living in Tucson, in the winter it was off to the ski resort atop Mount Lemon in the morning or late afternoon into the evening. Allowing tan time in between. thanks

Usually, November throuh January it was snow skiing in the morning and go swimming in the afternoon.:E Laugh:

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
