My Mom and Dad had this book. Mom served as a cryptanalyst with the FBI during the war while Dad, who had been drafted into the Army in Dec 1940, got sent to the Caribbean.
In elementary school we had an explicit list of school supplies to bring. Crayons were the 8 or 10 color box. Most arrived with a 28 or more boxs. When us rule minders complained we were told they were not allowed to use the other crayons. They did anyway and I never heard them being denied or made to redo the lesson with only allowed colors. Basically, we were taught early only idiots followed the rules. Some of us kept following the rules and never learned.
We now have permission to eat stuff we normally wouldn't buy like hostess cakes and marshmallows etc because they are cheaper than healthy stuff.
Taught my children to drive stick first, and motorcycles. Oldest son was working as a valet at a country club and was able to park a Masarati and received a 20 dollar tip. This was late '90's!
