Next Buffalo hunt

Tanzania is great for hunting Cape Buffalo

Then the question is what does Canada and the EU have against Zimbabwe?
I can only speak from a UK perspective but I assume it goes back to a time when UK based PMCs (Private Military Contractors) were very active in Africa in regime change and the UK government thought they were trying to help prevent it. It's just a shame they didn't restrict it to military weapons not a .458 Lott etc!

I have fallen in love with buffalo hunting. My hunt took me to Limpopo in full bloom, and the hills of the Northern Cape. Being certified addict, I am planning my next hunt. I am thinking I may like to experience a different place. Unfortunately, I cannot bring my rifle into Zimbabwe, so it is off my list for the time being. Tanzania is probably way outside of my budget.

Mozambique, Namibia, back to South Africa, or somewhere else? Where would you go, and what time of year?
Cameroon has Savanah Buffalo and it is DIFFERENT

Maybe checkout @Spear Safaris as well. Ernest is a sponsor here and offers buffalo hunts across many countries in Africa.
I run into the same embargo issue, so I went this route for 2027.
Ernest would be a very good PH to consider. He’s been around quite a long time, hunts lots of areas, takes quality animals and is good company.

My sons and I will be hunting with Ernest in Klaserie/Umbabat and his private concession in June. He and Marita have made everything so far easy and comfortable for first timers. We can't wait!

Makore Safaris-DUCKWORTHS at Coutada 9 in MOZ. There aren't better PH's in Africa and the area is 1 million acres of complete wilderness. They are just getting ready to open a new camp in the North. Also heard that gary just got a new area as well. They are hunting buff on C9 but on a pretty limited basis. I'd request Gary, he loves hunting buffalo and he loves to get close. On top of that there are loads of Kudu, Sable, Nyala----and you will also have lion encounter experience,....keeps things interesting.
You’re correct about Coutada 9 having a rather limited quota of buffalo. I’ll be hunting with Neal there in September and taking 3 friends with me. We all have buffalo on quota but I’m the only one who will be taking a buffalo on C9. My 3 buddies will all be hunting theirs on C14. We have 8 days on C9 & 4 days on C14. The plan is to take 1 buffalo on 9 and 3-4 on 14. They could only offer the 1 on C9.

Hunters going to both concessions should be aware that it’s a long drive from 9 to 14, about 6-7 hours. But it’s only an hour by air so we are flying. The plan is for the PH’s except Neal to leave early for the drive to 14 while Neal takes a couple of my buddies hunting. Our charter will take us to 14 in time to meet the PH’s and hunt that evening in 14. We’re actually flying everywhere. Airlink into Beira, charter to C9, charter from 9 to 14, charter from 14 back to Beira then Airlink back to Jo’burg to catch our Emirates flight home.

The good thing about C14 is that it’s loaded with buffalo. At the recent Mzuri Wildlife Foundations ‘Big Event’ fundraiser I was visiting with Craig Boddington and asked him to tell me about C14. His reply was “C14 has the most buffalo of any Coutada. You’ll see hundreds every day”. C14 is also easy terrain to hunt as even though there are swamps there is also a lot of forest holding buffalo. One of my buddies is 79 and it’ll be his first Buffalo, so Neal and I agreed that C14 would be best for him since it’s flat and doesn’t require much walking. The other 2 buddies are a father & son. Dad is mid-60’s and son is about 30. They’ll have a blast with all the buffalo on 14. Dad hopes to shoot 2. I’ll probably walk my ass off on 9, looking for something really old.

Buff in RSA is not the real deal. Not at all.
Zim, Moz, Bots and others are true tracking hunts.
If you love to see a lot of buff and shoot more than one, go to Uganda. Amazing place.
I have shot buff in 6 countries - all free range and seriously wild. However, Uganda has a lot and you will see a lot.

Use a camp rifle and go to Zim. I have done that.

Have you ever seen a carpenter take a picture of his hammer in front of house he built???
Guns are tools and tools only. Don't get wrapped up in "I must shoot my gun".... Use the tool that gets you to the place where the buff are.

Well, the analogy doesn't quite apply. For myself, I am going to Namibia for a buff hunt specifically to blood my new Rigby Shikari double. In this case the tool is the important part of the hunt.

Never had a carpenter work on my house and borrow my hammer.

Cameroon is not a reasonable buffalo destination for anyone on their 2nd hunt. After someone has shot a handful of buffalo Cameroon would be an interesting and different hunt. But there’s no way I’d recommend it to anyone who’s only been to Africa a couple times.

Stick with countries such as Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana. When a hunter wants to upgrade from those it’s time to go to Tanzania.

Thank you for calling me unreasonable. Cameroon was my second trip to Africa. Thanks for educating me on the rule book for when and where to hunt timeline.

Mozambique would be my suggestion

I have only been once and that was to Chawalo Wilderness Moz in 23 and that ended up a classic track hunt for Buffalo with last day success. I am returning to Coutada 10 in July mainly for Leopard but I will kill a buffalo also. In fact I never plan to go back to Africa without buffalo on the ticket so the best place to kill one is wherever you're headed!!!! I will say that getting your trophies out of Moz and back to your home is a bit of a wait. Mine in 23 went to SAfr to Splitting Image and they won't be back here to US until after my hunt in July!!! And it aint cheap, just getting them to SAfr and paying all the inspection fees and permits was pricey. Sure hoping I have to pay it again for a Leopard!!! Enjoy your addiction!!!

I’ve hunted 7 African countries. Cameroon is the only one I’d seriously caution other hunters to know what they are getting into. It can go really well but there’s a lot that can go wrong. Being naive sometimes works out, but sometimes it doesn’t. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go to Cameroon on second trip either unless they have very specific goals.

I am going to take a close look at Moz. Thank you for all the advice!

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
