new member. i figure this is the place to go to talk hunting i wish to do.

hunting and loading since 1987. single shot pistol hunter mostly.

350 remington mag is my primary rig. 17" custom barrel. encore pistol. best load is a 200gr moving at 2560. 180 at 2700. 110 pistol at 1900. 300 RN at 2290.

very versatile. i guess its unrealistic to use a single shot in africa, but who knows. i have a 375 taylor barrel also. thinking about 416 rem. have 20 boolits.

building a ar10 in 358 WSM. can i use it in africa?

i expect great info here. about to retire, so im going out west and africa. dreamed about killing Black Death. i need a bigger rifle. maybe 375 WSM? . 416?

you folks know i don't.

nice to meet everyone. -bill

Welcome to AH !

Howdy Bill, welcome to the forum! The 350 is a great round, take it over and stack up some plains game, the AR won’t be able to make the trip, a good excuse to purchase a new 375 bolt gun for buff! Nice stag!
Cheers,
Cody

Welcome to the forum.
I understand the pistol hunting, but on single shots rifle, ruger 1 is not uncommon in Africa.

However, this can prove expensive.
I have seen, a hunter shooting sable (5000 eur) with single shot, hitting and wounding.
Sable did not run instantly, but was a bit in shock, and turning around. Rifle had no extractor, and while hunter was strugling to reload, sable came to senses and went for the bush.
Blood spoor, found, but not sable.
If he had a double barrel rifle, or bolt action he would bring the sable down with second shot and saved the day.
In this way: no sable found, wounding confirmed by blood, and paid for in full.
Expensive experience with single shot, and bitter pill swallowed by hunter

Welcome,

Former Alabama resident myself. Unfortunately the AR can't be taken to Africa. Someone can correct me but I believe you're not able to bring anything Semi-Automatic. I've heard of 1 person blocking their AR so it was a Single Shot and taking that. Handgun wise, certain countries will allow it, others won't.

As for a Cape Buffalo, it'll depend on the country but many have a .375 Minimum.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?

Hi Green Chile, I just recently bought a 470 NE barrel for my Thompson Center TCR 83-87 single shot. Im just looking for some 470 NE to shoot at the range just to try it out. I dont need anything special but I just wanted to see what you have left. I dont necessarily even need a full box.
Thanks
Bill
