Going to visit my brother (October 8th to 12th) who relocated from San Francisco to New York and is living temporarily in New Jersey.

I want to take him salt water fishing for the day. We’ll charter a boat. It could be Stripers or travel to a Tuna boat if that makes sense. Neither of us know anything about East Coast Fishing. We will need to rent gear too.

If anyone has first hand knowledge or information about fishing charters around New York, New Jersey or the area, please let me know. He has a nice truck, so we could drive a couple hours one way…

Thanks in advance.

Call Haskell’s in Westhampton and other fishing shops in the Hamptons for referrals. Montauk, at the end of the island, is famous for sport fishing.

Tightlines in Southampton is the other shop that should be helpful. I cannot remember the owner’s name, but he is a nice guy. All the shops on the East End of the Island are helpful, and they can point you in a good direction. Summer season is over, and it should be a lot easier to get a charter. Have fun. https://www.tightlinestackleinc.co/

Mid October could be a bit t late for tuna but good for striped bass. In New Jersey talk to Capt Erik at On A Mission in Neptune NJ. I have had some epic days on striped bass with him.
Sea bass opens on Oct 1 so most of the boats will be targeting a combo of striped bass and sea bass.
If you tell me where your brother lives in NJ I can provide recommendations close to his place.

Oooff hopefully I'm not too late but it's going OFF right now for yellowfin off Long Island. Boats are limiting in less than an hour. Lights out fishing.

Right now, in a pinch, consider the Big Jamaica out of Brielle NJ. It's about a 45 min - 1 hour drive from West New York but it's an easy bet to get out in a pinch. They are a head boat but it's well run. They are running to the area off LINY where the fish are.

I unfortunately don't know of any private charters up that way with availability. Most boats are very pricey ($4000-$6000).

Trust me, if you guys can make it out right now: DO IT. It's lights out. I've been dying here at my desk with all the pictures friends have been sending me.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
