Namibia Outfitter Recommendations

Kowa’s hunts on 400,000+ acres. High fence along the ‘highway’, the rest low fenced. The warthogs go under, the antelopes go over the zebra, ostrich and giraffe go where they want.

To me, the fences are a non-issue. I’m going to Mozambique with Zambeze Delta Safaris next year, but it’s a whole ‘nother price level. Add in charter flights, trophy shipping to South Africa before back to North America…. Anyway, don’t discount hunting on a big ‘ranch’.

+1 on the recommendations for Kowas. I've been twice and would go back tomorrow. I believe Danie told me they round up and sell over 5000 gemsbok a year. Almost as many springbuck. Lots of open country and they are just about an hour from Windhoek.

I had zero issues. My guns were checked straight through from St. Louis to Windhoek, so I never touched them until arrival in Namibia. I used Gracy Travel to handle the paperwork. That said, Lufthansa’s policy makes it pretty easy. Just inform them at booking, fill out a form and pay them. I forget what the fee was, so it wasn’t too much.

I’m hardly rich! In fact, I don’t have tens of thousands of dollars to jeopardize because I incorrectly completed some form! Safaris are too expensive for that. Parking at the airport will cost almost as much!

Another rec for Kowas. Went last year, going back next. Oh, you’ll walk. Usual day was about 4 miles, most was 10. Each day we saw tons of animals, the walking was for THE animal. Only old males allowed, no matter how much you beg!

Forgot the other part. Atlanta to Joburg, overnight at African Sky, then to Windhoek in the morning. Africa Sky handled the rifle in SA, easy peasy.

Can anyone recommend a good outfitter in Namibia for a PG hunt? I am looking for a free range hunt, spot and stalk, lots of walking.
Coming from the US is it recommended to fly to JNB and then to Windhoek or to UK or Germany then to Windhoek? We will be bringing rifles.

I've done the Lufthansa connection through Frankfort and/or Munich. It's a nice way to do it. Two 10-ish hour flights aren't so bad. Just make sure you have a German rifle import permit in-hand in case something goes wrong. My rifle was supposed to be checked all the way through, but there was a mixup on the first flight and I had to claim it in Germany and re-check it. Fortunately Gracy had it pre-arranged, and it saved my bacon.

There are some showers in the Frankfort airport that you don't need lounge access to use. The fee is minimal, and there hasn't been a wait when I've used them. The other nice thing is that you arrive in Windhoek early in the AM and can usually get in a half-day of hunting. Very nice, says I.

Eintracht Jagd Safaris Gets my vote. I will make it back but might be 2030 or so before I do.
The Charlotte to newark to JNB to Windhoek isn’t bad.

That’s interesting. I have to wonder if it’s because Burchell Safari’s is a South African they have a different approach or that area has a higher percentage of fences. I’ve hunted ranches near Otavi, Kalkfeld, and Rehoboth and it’s been a similar situation in those regions that I saw.

They have a huge area (i think something like 85,000 acres) in high fence. We've hunted large cattle ranches, low fence, close by as well. I've hunted large wild concession areas in Zim and the hunting experience has been very similar.

RDB Safaris has a nice concession in Namibia. They will pick you up in Joburg and drive over if you want. 150,000 acres.

There are enough Namibian outfitters and PHs. I see no reason to hunt with a South African PH in a foreign country unless they move there full time.

I’d go via JNB — usually the smoothest option when traveling with rifles. As for outfitters, make sure you’re clear about wanting true spot & stalk and lots of walking, since many hunts are still vehicle-based. Namibia can be great for that style if you pick the right place

I can recommend ARU & Frontier Safaris. They provide different experiences so look into them for the best fit for you. You are best to fly JNB overnight at City Lodge and the. Take Airlink to WDH

I went through Frankfurt direct to Windhoek. I needed a rifle permit for Frankfurt, but Travel Express took care of it. All in all, I never had to handle my rifle or luggage in Germany and spent the day touring Frankfurt before and evening flight to Namibia which arrived the following morning (local time) in Namibia and we got on with our trip.

I was coming from Calgary though, not sure how the total trip duration and flight times will match up from places in the USA.
