Looking For A 10ga Double Now

I look forward to others weighing in on this also. To me, it's all about #1 or #2. Much more refinement than #3. A big 10 isn't clunky...it's a work of art to make one that's easy to swing, etc.

Yes, I have both turkey and waterfowl 10 loads available and a decent amount I think.

Ok..I need some help here...
some choices that are higher cost than the Spanish Doubles...
How do these rate against each other ??

1)Ithaca Field Grade 10ga
2)Beretta Silver Hawk 10ga
3)Stoeger Model 6HG (Heavy Goose) 10ga

Looking at these but a good bit more money than a Spanish 10ga Double I am also considering ?

Thank You ![emoji1783]
(also anyone have any 10ga Waterfowl or Turkey loads for sale ?)
Beretta Silver Hawk, hands down.

I had a Spanish double 10 and quickly sold it after finding the Beretta 10. Night and day difference.

I always found (seriously) that a 3.5" 10 gauge load is far less objectionable than a 3.5" 12 gauge load. Part of it is because most 10 gauges have proper weight whereas a lot of 3.5" 12 gauge loads are in light field guns. I hate the big 12 gauge shells and their patterns stink compared to a good 10 gauge pattern. Try one...you might be surprised. The old market gunners loved a 10 gauge to go with their punt gun!

I have a loose filling and a headache from just reading this thread...ugh...

:)
I've had 3 different 10 gauge shotguns and none have kicked like my 3.5" 12 gauge BE2.

And they are great in blind, but I don't want to carry them all day.

I've owned over twenty 10 gauge SxS shotguns including two Ithaca NID 3.5" Magnums, Beretta, Spanish sewer pipe, LC Smith, Lefever, and Parker Brothers. One of my LC Smith's was rebarreled with 3.5" fluid steel barrels. I even had a fluid steel barrel Parker that had 3.5" chambers.

I shot a lot of Canada Geese with those and quite a few ducks. Most of my kills were bagged with 2&7/8" loads using 1&3/8 ounce of shot over Longshot powder. Devastating! The larger bore of the 10 produces a more evenly dispersed pattern. It was as simple as that! I'd rather have a short 10 than a 12 gauge 3.5" magnum with more shot. The short ten killed better.

The majority on my 10's were Damascus Steel barreled. There are a lot of old wives tales about Damascus barrels and only 10% are true, almost always for cheap hardware store guns. Any hand loader can create safe, super loads for them.

If anyone is interested, the 36" Parker DH 10 Gauge on Gun Broker is mine. It is on consignment with Mark's Born Again Bird Guns. Its a different Mark than me...

If you start talking about short 10's (not the original topic), you will find the most incredible real life, honest to God field patterns that will blow your mind. A short 10 is one of the best field guns EVER created. I'm still on the search for the right Damascus short 10 double...like a Daly Diamond grade.

My pump action 12ga Turkey Gun shooting the 3 1/2" loads of copper plated shot kicks me harder than a .458 Win does

One thing to note on that listing...10 gauge wasn't offered in 2 3/4" length. It's either 3.5" or 2 7/8". Probably a typo or missed measurement. That gun should be 2 7/8".

Some tallywhacker put a White Line pad on a Darne??
“Tallywacker” is way underutilized as a insult these days.
Jus sayin
