Ok, I have read many books were the author talks about holding two rounds between the fingers of your left hand for a fast reload. Do any of you do this? What is your opinon of this way of reloading?

I’m not a fan. I think it interferes with your ability to control the rifle.

The fastest way I’ve found is a weak hand reload from a belt slide in the front.

Look at the videos of how the cowboy action folks do their sxs shotgun reloads.

I agree with sureshot. I set my belt up for two cartridges together, then skip a slot. Then when I reach down, I can pinch two cartridges just under the rim with my thumb and forefinger of my offhand, pluck them up parallel to eachother, and they're spaced to slip both into the chambers straight away.

Something like that is certainly not meant seriously. In the evening after hunting, around the campfire and after a few drinks, each of us tells stories about various shooting and hunting practices.

When the buffalo or the elephant comes in your direction, the two cartridges will end up in the dust very quickly. Also, I don't know how you can shoot a rifle with recoil if you also have to hold with the left hand two cartridges between your fingers. It is terrible what nonsense some authors write.

I have them belt mounted. I had this made many years ago and it has served me well.

I tried a bit of shooting, running and reloading using different reloading methods and, like some of the previous comments, the holding between the fingers didn’t work except in the most clinical and unrepresentative environment.

I’ve reloaded a TC encore like this many times. It doesn’t work as bad as some say, and I’ve never had trouble dropping cartridges. Actually they can be hard to get out.
You need to get them back in the web of your fingers, with the rim flush with your palm.
My encore has a plastic forend that I don’t mind to scratch however.

I picked up these speed loading grips in Johannesburg, they work really well and took about three seconds off my loading time.

Cool! They seem the modern/upgraded version of the stuff on this pic I found time ago, just here on AH.
Never thought anyone make them!

Between the fingers is a pain in the butt...
More than just a quick reload to consider....
Are you just topping up one barrel or both?
Solid and softs only or are you combining?
Speed loaders work but need to be practiced....
I put two cartridges in the palm of my weak hand and reload from there....

Phil those look just the part, I wish I could find a pair or two. Are they made of silver?
Don't know Kevin. I found just the picture, maybe a year or so ago, and saved it since it seemed a very smart solution to me.
Due to my rusty english, you must have thought I found the speed loader itself maybe, but in fact, I found just an entetesting picture. Sorry my friend.

@Kevin Peacocke they look great - have you got a link - or even a video of them in action.

Would love to get some.

Thanks for all the advice. Really lots of books talk of two between the fingers reload. It just does not work for me. It's much quicker for me to load from shell holder on my strong side.
Those double speed loaders look great but I can not find them on line.

I personally find loading from the strong side faster than the weak. It is the way I handle all my double shotguns, whether OU or SxS, and so the motor skills are very deeply imprinted. In my case left hand retains control of the rifle at the barrels, right hand drops naturally to the slide on my right hip (where the shell bag would be if using a SxS on a driven bird hunt), two rounds go instantly in the chambers without having to look, and rifle or shotgun is coming up ready to fire. I obviously can also easily decide between loading one or two rounds which seems to be a problem with the speed loader concept. And yes, I have read about the rounds between the fingers of the left hand which has always seemed mildly ridiculous and potentially painful to me.

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
