What's a good scope range for general conditions for Limpopo Plains Game? I will of course confirm before I go.

Was thinking about using a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 I just picked up. I can't seem to resist those Black Friday Sales.

Excellent choice. I used one the last trip I made to SA. Also used a VX3i 4.5X14X40 and found it was more than I needed so after the 1st animal I never turned it above 10X. The trip before we used 3X9X40 VX2 scopes. The only scope I use on a hunting rifle is a Leupold and have since the 1960's. Never had one go bad.

You are done shopping for scopes, next!

Most of my shots in SA were taken with 3X, maximum was 6X.

Should be good-to-go. What are you putting it on?

If you have a receiver that allows for QD mounts you can take more than one scope for your rifle.
Allows for flexibility and if there is a problem with one scope...switch and done.

Keep shopping...

I have been living in Limpopo, then called Northern Transvaal. On all my rifles were Zeiss 1,5-6x42 with recticle no 4. Couldn’t have been better. For night hunting I used a Zeiss 2,5-10x52 - excellent!

2L8, like others have said you are all set to go. Depending on where you are hunting i.e. brush or more open areas I'd suggest setting your scope at 3 or 4 power. My longest shot was 250 yards and you don't need a lot of magnification for that distance. P.S. I didn't take that shot on a 52" Kudu because he was smaller than what I was looking for, but he stood out like a sore thumb on my 4 power setting.

I hunted Limpopo with a 2.5x10 I don't remember ever moving from moving the magnification ring off of 2.5

That is an awesome scope. It will serve you well.

Only tip I could add is dial it down till you need more— lots of thick stuff — remember to laugh often

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
