Let's See Your Lever Action

Marlin2.JPG

Marlin Model 1881 in 40-60 Marlin. I have an Ideal tong hand reloading tool in 40-65 Winchester which is essentially the same cartridge. Designed to kill buffalo and Indians. Hard to get a hunting license for either species these days so it stays in the safe.

Can't get enough of the Savage 99. One of the AH members even shot a kudu with one in 300 Savage. The previous owner of mine claimed he killed a bear in self defense with it.

That might be me. I took a kudu, gemsbok, warthog, and impala with mine. By the serial number it's a 1947 issue EG. I used handloads with 180 grain Accubonds.

I also own a model 88. Mine is in 308. Always on the lookout for one chambered in 358. One day, I’ll pick one up.
Anyways, here’s some pictures of mine. She’s a shooter!!

Yes sir that is a shooter. I have seen 2 in 358 one a friend owns, who says” when they pry it from my cold dead hands”. The other was asking $2500.

My wife’s great uncle had one in 358. After he passed away his son sold it. Unfortunately, he didn’t sell it to me. I would have loved to have that rifle, and his model 71.
I didn’t know him for a long time, but he was a great man that I thought a lot of.
He’s the reason I now own both the model 71 and 88.

I inherited my dad's late 1940's Marlin 336C in .30-30 after he passed away years ago. He bought it new when he got out of the army, only rifle I ever saw him using deer hunting from the 50's until the early 2000's. As you can see in the pics, it still has his old homemade sling of paracord attached, can't bring myself to take it off. I did put a new Nikon 3-9X scope on it several years ago, he had an old Weaver 4X on it that was so dark I could hardly see through it! He had the see thru rings on it so he could still use the iron sights hunting in the hardwood hills of Arkansas. When I got it the butt plate had a piece cracked off so I put a new Marlin buttplate on it. When taking the old one off I found he had drilled a 3/4" hole up into the butt of the stock and had a bundle of kitchen matches covered in parafin wax to waterproof them for when he hunted mulies out in Colorado, he was prepared in case he got stuck out in a snow storm!

I took this rifle to Saskatchewan in 2022 on a whitetail hunt for old times sake and took a nice 6x6 buck that weighed over 300 lbs. (212 lbs still when the carcass was fully dressed).

Bought my son this beautiful 1924 made .300 Savage Model 99 with an extra shotgun barrel in .410 bore.
Very elegant. I keep hoping Savage or someone else will figure out a cost effective way to bring them back. With the ability to shoot spritzers, the round counter, the cocking pin on top you can feel in the dark, the takedown feature, they were very special rifles. And even a shotgun barrel!

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
