In light of the recent US elections, let’s do something fun. Each of us posts a picture & description of our favorite AMERICAN rifle and/or shotgun. As a bonus, I’m sure we’ll all get to see some great firearms.

I’ll go first.

Rifle would have to be Griffin & Howe Custom Springfield Model 1903A3 Sporter in you guessed it..
.30-06 Springfield. You can’t get more American & classy than that.

Shotgun would have to be a Winchester Model 21 Heavy Duck in 12 gauge 3” Magnum. 32” fully choked barrels. Single selective trigger. Boxlock ejector action.

My favorite deer rifle, and pure Americana, a pre 64 Winchester Model 70 featherweight 30-06 mfg date 1956 with 4X Bushnell Scope Chief.

I doubt anyone would argue that Winchester Model 70 is the epitome of American Rifles. The rifleman rifle is a living legend.although the Winchester model 94 and Marlin 336 would certainly have a legitimate argument for the crown of America's rifle. As far as shotguns go, I'm not sure any surpasses the Remington Midel 870 for popularity in the US. Many a young hunter has learned to properly lead a clay pigeon or fleeing Pheasant over the full length rib and silver colored bead of an 870. Though I think the Mossberg 500 claims a not so distant second place.

Just like in the discussion of which gun is most American, there are those that will disagree with me politically. I can think of several that would give me the shirt off their backs, and I to them, despite our policies differences. As cliche as that sounds. And I think that bears remembering for all of us when we are faced with so much division in this country.

Not just firearms...

How about a Smith & Sons Brave handmade knife with a sheath from our own @CM McKenzie.

Big thanks to @Hunter-Habib for starting this thread, because it's been a long four years my friend. Appreciate you thinking of us. I raise a glass to you. Cheers.

Weatherby MK V in 300 Wby is my choice.
This is just an internet pic (from a Gunshop here in Italy), but really I'm going to search and purchase a good Wby 300 to celebrate what it seems to me, a victory for all of us, not only for Americans.
So I picked what I see as an iconic American combo.
I already have a 300 wby in a Sauer 90, but I want a Roy rifle. I will look for a vintage, Japan made, because I love the blueing and wood of that time, and they usually shot pretty well.
Weatherby was a genius, ahed of his time, a man with great capacities, that well represent the American inventiveness and dedication.
Is the 300 wby the perfect caliber to me? Probably not : it has some defects, it's capricious, it's heat sensitive, it's not super accurate. Ok. But damn, it's cool. I'm already looking for it...

When I first started hunting as a teenager my dream rifle was a Remington 700 BDL in 300 Winchester Magnum. I shot everything from rabbits to buffalo with that rifle. I was like a rat with a gold tooth when I bought her.

A decade later I discovered European bolt action rifles. That was an expensive affair.

Anyway, to me when I think about the US firearms industry I think of the M14 and that Black Rifle. Unfortunately, I can no longer own either. Of those I preferred, by a country mile, the M14 for target shooting and hunting.

Nothing more American than plinking with a 22LR, so here's my Remington 512 Sportmaster passed down through three generations.

And for good measure, since we're not limiting ourselves to firearms, here is a wonderful knife that was so generously made for me by our great friend, @mdwest , who lives just a few miles down the road from me in Texas.

My pleasure, @BeeMaa . The USA has been very kind to my family & I ever since 1973. And that senile old fool running the show ever since 2020, was basically destroying everything the USA stood for.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
