Leopard hunting

Does anybody know of an organization that is actively campaigning to bring back leopard hunting in South Africa?

I’ve made three hunting trips there and on every property I’ve heard stories of shoot, shovel and shut up with leopards.

I understand they tried to have a hunt a number of years ago, and the judge put an injunction against it.

Supposedly, they’re gonna have one next year and take I believe 10 animals.

The PHs were saying that it’s going to be a $40,000 hunt.

One property owner in Limpopo this year told me he imported a large quantity of Blesbuck because they were cheap and he was hoping leopards would develop a taste for them.

If it does resume I’d be interested the prices they do sell for. I think $40k is a stretch. I think for ranch cats it would be difficult to charge more than Namibia. If quota is issued for reserves adjacent Kruger I think would be difficult to charge more than Zimbabwe concession prices.

Last year, in the Limpopo, we passed within 30 meters of a big Tom. It was lying in the open, in broad daylight, just looking at us. Looking like it knew we couldn't do a damn thing.

Agree. I see no more expensive than Namibia. Why would I pay more for SA than I would pay for Namibia?

If they charge 40Gs they are going to be eating their leopard tags at the end of the season

I think the rates will be high as tags will be limited and some folks just dont care to travel to other countries to hunt leopard. So Namibia will still be the cheapest when it comes to leopard hunts.

I would think that the guys who could pay 40Gs for a Leopard, would go to Zambia or TZ instead, but you never know

There is bound to be some monster cats on those ranches
