Kudu Pricing?

Point 1 you won nothing......

It might not look good on the outfitter saying an auction hunt can’t be combined with other hunts, but it doesn’t look good on a client trying to be cheap as possible combining two auction hunts either. I don’t think auctions are a win for anyone.

I would agree if it said, "can't be combined with another auction/donation hunt". But it says any other hunt in SA and even Namibia. That clearly feels like they are just trying to make sure you shoot all of your animals with them at their marked up prices.

While I do agree it would be hard to legally stop or enforce they do mean with other outfitters. Below is a screen shot from one of the more "well known" DU Banquet Donors that expressly states "another outfitter in South-Africa or Namibia". This is one of many such clauses I've seen at different banquets and auctions.

Anyone interested in bidding on any auction hunt REALLY needs to have done their homework a month or two before. I'd suggest talking to the outfitter, his/her references, scope the website, confirm the area, and check trophy fees/pricing. Not all auction hunts/donated hunts are created equal. There are some great ones out there, but be very cautious because for every good one there are 50 not so good ones.

I keep telling myself not to get sucked into these Kuche threads, but I just can’t help myself.

What a totally shady policy.

If I had more time I’d buy a rifle or whatever to get one of their “free safaris” just to see first hand how crappy it really is.

@sureshot375 - Yes and then go to Namibia after they drop you off and send them pictures :A Tease:

Really put that insane fine print rule to the test. Get that invoice and trash it lol.

Fkn crazy

My first kudu bull cost me ZAR 350, the venison was included - but that was 40 years ago

Just looked on Game 4 Africa website. For $5,000 you get a kudu, black wildebeest , spring book, zebra and impala. My kudu is a solid representative animal that I took over 10 years ago when I hunted this package with them. So when I see some of these other outfitter kudu pricing it is just nuts to me

My PH from last year in Namibia sent me this pic. One of his helpers who was up to his camp was downloading trail cams and getting ready for the season. Estimated 55”-57” bull. One of many good bulls I saw personally in my time at Simondeum Camp. I talked with him this morning on a cheetah hunt. His prices have not changed from last year. $1800.00 regardless of size.

I filed a hunt report here:

Man, poor @Islandlaker is probably developing a drinking problem after reading all this. Goodness gracious... Brother, you're going to go Africa and have a good time! Not only that, you're going to want to go back. Harvest the animals you want without overpaying, and make a plan to go after some more next time (or with another outfitter while you're there). Have fun!

That’s the thing… these DU auction hunt outfitters state he can’t hunt with another outfitter after :ROFLMAO:

I truly think it’s a waste of money to buy a plane ticket

I know what they say. I feel this concern has already been thoroughly addressed in this thread: "How are they going to enforce it?"

That’s just it…no one can enforce it which makes it laughable to me!!!
I guess you would just lie when your “outfitter” asks what your return flight is? And do a whole charade and lie. Do a fake airport drop off and make sure they don’t go and help you check in for your “flight” like lots of good outfitters do. Seems like a mess

My thought is he just shouldn’t even go with them in the first place.

Here’s of few of the scenarios I can think of on “How”

1) Outfitter learns during the hunt and at the conclusion hits you with a giant bill (day rates, and full trophy fees) on top of what you paid to DU and demands it paid prior to you departing. Can he refuse to drop you off at the airport until paid? Remember you’re not in the US, it’s a different legal system, and you ignored their terms … does it hold there

2) Outfitter learns after the hunt. Does he/can he hit you with a bill for the overage and hold your animals, dip & pack, or taxidermy as collateral? Do they do something vengeful or spiteful to your trophies? Again different country, different legal system, and you ignored their terms

What about your Letters of Invitation? You’ve gotta have dates listed for gun imports?

I’m just playing devils advocate, this isn’t directed at any outfitter specifically since I’ve seen that clause on multiple hunt terms/descriptions not just Kuche. I just happened to have a photo of theirs

Speaking from first hand experience....they don't do that.

My guess is they hope that 70% of people think it’s binding Africa or not so it works while they know the other 30% like me just laugh and say good luck. Just think of the damage done to their business if anyone of us really trumpeted this to everyone…how much business do you think they would lose? (a lot given how many choices are out there)

they wouldn’t loose much business, no one goes and researches for outfitters and picks Kuche.

It’s literally 95% auction hunts and then those suckers coming back.

The people who bid on a SA hunt drunk at a Ducks Unlimited auction have never researched Africa in their life. I see it happen everytime I go to a DU auction banquet. I once stopped my old boss from doing so when our office had a table at a DU banquet.
