Kudu Bull Over 60 Inches Pictures

Some really great bulls.... @sestoppelman and @50by50 I also had a whole look at the thread, my head is at least 8 times less itchy.

Just to compare a few sizes....57.7/8, 54, 52 inch

That first one is a whopper and fairly obviously larger than a couple of the "60" inchers shown here.

That top picture is an awesome Kudu. I REALLY like when they flare out on top. My first time to Africa, there were two kudu mounted in the lodge. One was 60 inches and the other was 57 inches. The 60 inch kudu had great big curls that made his tips point in (not even forward), while the 57 inch bull had horns like the one above.

In my mind it was a no brainer which one I would shoot if they were both standing next to each other. (Yes- BOTH! But the 57 inch bull first). 60 inches is a tremendous achievement but it's not the only consideration.

Here's a couple shots of my bull a few taken from my go pro camera a few minutes before I got an arrow into him and on the ground. His longer horn went 59 1/2. His shorter was just over 58.

Believe it or not I almost didn't shoot him! for some reason I didn't think he was really that big.

Luckily my hunting buddy was with me and when he said he is going to shoot it and make me pay I decided to take him.

We had stalked into a perfect setup so he had no idea we were their even with the pretty animated conversation going on.

Agreed. There are some magnificent heads on this thread and some that I'm left scratching my head. Maybe they're getting centimeters and inches mixed up?

I don't fault the hunter's themselves for reporting exaggerated scores. More than likely it's the suggestions of a few generous PHs who have taken the liberty of "rounding up the score" to satisfy/impress the unknowing client.

True story..... Back when I was fishing full time, I shared a marina with a fellow charter boat captain that used to have an old wooden yard stick on board. He would use it to quickly field measure fish for his clients. The yard stick had the first 4-5" cut off so every measurement already began at plus 4-5".... He would put his thumb or part of his hand over the short end when he laid it along the length of the fish. He did this for decades without question.

That's incredible. I think people, myself definitely included, get too caught up in measurements. BUT... to trick your clients is not okay.

When I hunted with Werner Lewies (Motshwere), he did something similar. I'd forgotten my tape measure at home and wanted to measure a waterbuck I'd shot. He told me there weren't any in camp. I found one in the PH's truck so pulled it out. Werner grabbed it from me and measured the bull at 34"! Wow. So impressive. He congratulated me and tried to walk away with the tape but I grabbed it from him and later measured the bull myself. He measured 31 inches.

I saw Werner do the same thing as your marina mate- hiding at least 3 inches at the base of the horns.

I put the tape back and the next day it was gone. Nobody knew where it had gone.

You stalked to within bow range of that kudu?? Impressive! And you need to buy your buddy a fantastic birthday present.

Only reason I can think of is he really does not know how to judge horns or gave the wrong estimate/judgement before you shot.

I personally don't like tape measures to get pulled out straight away after a animal has been shot. There is more than enough time to do that at the skinning shed and it is nice to do this with a client. I rather savor the moment of the hunt when the animal is down, allow for some time with the animal, get some good pictures and then off to the skinning shed to keep the cape in top condition.

Sure when you shoot an above average animal it is always nice to have the size/score, but pay some respect and do it at the skinning shed.

May thoughts anyway.

My buddie owed me i let him shoot first on a vaalie hunt a couple of years ago. That was the one and only one we saw the whole trip, and it was a whopper! Have been looking for one since.

Good points. Most times I wait until that night when everyone all walks down to the skinning shed to admire everyone's trophies for the day. But sometimes I pull it out RIGHT THERE if it looks like an exceptional trophy!

A little background on my story is in order: When I booked the hunt at the SLC show, Werner closed the deal (I was looking at several outfits) by telling me I would only pay for animals that met roland ward. I wasn't really going to hold him to that but when I got out there he was very sensitive about measurements. Werner had been complaining for several days about how much he hates tape measures so when we went down after dinner in a group and I found the tape measure, I think he wanted to take the opportunity to grab it and make it disappear. So he wasn't necessarily trying to make waterbuck bigger than it is- I think he was just trying to make a sensation that would allow him to go burn the tape measure.

Yes... I know Mr. Lewies. Enough said? Or maybe just this last thing: My crate full of animals from my 2016 hunt got to the states a month ago.... my crate full of trophies from my hunt with Lewies from 2014 is STILL in S. Africa. Nice guy. Full of #$%&.

I hunted with Barend but rubbed shoulders quite a bit with Michael. Michael is a stud! Do you know him well? He was at the SLC show last year with Werner and it was great catching up with him for a minute.
