Good day to all members.
A good friend of mine is a collector of rifles dating from the Anglo Boer war/Boer/ British war and is on the lookout for a Krag -Jorgenson , Norwegian origin...the American Krag -Jorgenson will not fit the collector specifications ..since these rifles was not used in the war between Boer and Brit...he will willingly take a barreled action , we can source a original stock on the internet...I really would appreciate if any references will be forthcoming...but the ultimate prize will be a Krag -Jorgenson in good to fair condition...

Regards

Gert

More info in this regards:
My need/wish is specifically for a Norwegian Krag in 6,5 x 58. I am a collector of military firearms in the theme “the Battle between Boer and Brit 1877 to 1914”. Not many people are aware that the Boer republics imported a small number of Krag Jorgenssons in this calibre before the outbreak of the hostilities in 1898. This is regarded as the holy grail of Boer War collectors.

Because a real Boer War Krag Jorgensson is probably unobtainable, I am willing to settle for a rifle even of post Boer war manufacture, provided it is in most aspects identical to the rifles used by the Boers. My pre-requisites include the calibre. My hopes were very high when a Krag Jorgensson without stock came on an auction a few months ago. I determined that the 30-40 Krag’s stock would fit, and that they are apparently quite easy to obtain in the US. Unfortunately, there was another collector who wanted it as eagerly as I, and his wallet was thicker.

I am thus on the lookout for another opportunity like this.

Regarding the import of rifles by a visiting hunter, it can be done, but it is becoming more and more difficult. Apparently one of the worst difficulties is to get a certificate of final export from US authorities. This has to be done before the rifle leaves the US, and there are all kinds of conditions relating to end user certificates, possible military application etc. Etc. There is a government organisation called BATF – i am sure you know them!

Can't remember where I read it, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but as memory serves me there were only around 300 krags "officially " imported during that time frame. No wonder they are collectable. Again, can't recall the source, but seems that's the number that sticks in my head. Most were Mauser and Enfields, correct?

A pic of Boer General Tobias Smuts with one of the Norwegian Krags. These where standard M1894 rifles for the Norwegian infantry. The one in the pic was made by Steyr...as the production for Norway was divided between Steyr and our state arsenal.

There was a small Scandinavian contigent who fought with the boers against the british that was almost wiped out in a battle (cant remember wich)

Contact Classic Arms in Witbank South Africa. Ask for Francois.

If there's one to be had he probably has it or knows where it can be acquired.

No, Classic Arms do not have one..I have bid on the previous action on a Krag-Jorgenson barreld action but the price was to steep.....

Well I hope you left your name and number with him in case one comes up. They take a whole lot of nice old rifles and "collectibles" in trade and handle a lot of estate sale firearms as well.

I spent a half day or so several times helping at the store while I was there and was pretty well amazed at the volume they do.

All the best in your search.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
