My first bushbuck ram and kudu bull with an international client. 15 June 2021
So we were sent off to one of our mountain concessions where there are quit a few kudu and bushbuck meandering around always. As soon as we got into the gate of this concession we started bumping into a lot of game. We made our way up to the one and only road that leads up the mountain area, while on an very steep part and what feels to be a 90° turn we saw a pretty great bushbuck ram, so we jumped off the truck grab the shooting sticks and persueded him not knowing he is surrounded with females that gave us away. So we decide not to bother him to much running up and over the rocks and to go ahead with our plan that we had in mind. We got back on the truck and headed out the blind that we had set up on top of the mountain, we got all settled in with some babboons around us and a great view over some of the property. About an hour in our sitting adventure the client almost hits me off my chair pointing to the side of the blind, I then leaned over to see what he was looking at and the next moment our game was on when a beautiful old bushbuck ram came wandering in without any hesitation. I just looked at the client and nodded my head and told him we have to shoot that ram, he then slowly shuffled himself into position raised his rifle as quitly as possible and the moment that bushbuck stood still the .300 WM right next to me when blasting away and it dropped the bushbuck right in his tracks. The moment we walked up to the great trophy I could just see the happiness it held in the clients eyes, with it still being in the heat of the we rushed to set him up for some pictures and so that the recovery vehicle can take him back to the skinning shed. After all that has been done we decided to move back into our little blind and sit the rest of the day awaiting the grey ghost of Africa. The day went by slowly with only baboons coming in and taunting us, the light was starting to fade away and I had called the truck to come and get us, so we started packing our stuff when I all of a sudden noticed a kudu cow coming in for a late drink. Told the client just to setlle down again, get his rifle ready let us just wait and see normaly the bulls will hang back for a while to see if everything is safe. Just messaged the truck to wait a bit before moving on again, we sat about till there was hardly any light left when I told the client let's call it a day, the moment I turned my head back to look out of the blind I saw the kudu bull walking up to the cow out of nowhere. Told the client just wait for the bull to turn broadside and take him, he was just as shocked as I were with the bulls appearance out of nowhere. The bull started turning slowly, the moment he was broadside the client got a shot off telling me he hope it's a good hit. I followed the bull in my bino's and he barely went 60 yards when he just started wobbling around and down he was. Both me and my client were extremely happy with the great day we spended out on the mountain, bagging two amazing trophees.
