I was messing around on Gun Broker and came across this. So this a John Rigby Big Game in 375 that was sent out for a barrel swap and sorted for 404 Jeff? Im not to sure I have seen someone modify a Rigby with this many non-standard Rigby parts.

I’m no expert for sure, but I didn’t see the word Rigby on the rifle, I could have missed it. The sling swivels look more German than English. And is the front ring on backwards?

Nice looking rifle for sure. But since the price is nearly what a new Heym would cost, I'd be more inclined to go that rought. Resale on customized rifles with aftermarket parts is always sub par.

As Wyatt Smith said......I'm no expert....but I do know when you have a factory gun customized, the end result is only limited by what the customer wants and how much money he has and is willing to spend. As it stands, it does not look like a Rigby to me.

I beleive he states the barrel was swapped. I do not think "rigby" is any where else on a big game model.

Modern Mauser action rifle with a pacnor barrel. Not a collectible but if it shoots straight it will make a nice hunting gun. The action alone makes it interesting.

It’s just Odd - I have two (2) Shops in Germany helping me track down a proper used & nostalgic European Make/Model large than .375 H&H & under a manageable budget.

One shop shared: Rigby Co. & German Mauser recently rejoined to build three (3) affordable rifles: PH, Big Game, Vintage. Rejoined meaning: many years ago Mauser built Actions & Barrels for Rigby Co. & Rigby in-turn assembled, proofed, etc. in their London shop.

The site you shared: PH Model (see PH on the pistol cap), Rigby offers the double square bridge in .375H&H or .416 Rigby only.

Goes back to ODD: that someone would order a rifle, remove the original barrel, sub w/ non-factory offered barrel/caliber & ask near, factory new price? The base on a True Rigby PH ($/£) $11,500.

For me - if the goal was an authentic Rigby/Mauser rifle & in a Big Boy Bore like .404 Jeff, order .416 Rigby & retain the rifle’s value.

I’d :A Outta:

It is a nice rifle, but does it feed properly 100% of the time? I have a "original pre war" single square bridge Rigby that started life as a .375H&H. It was sent back to Rigby and rebored to .404J at that time the rails were modified to fit .404J. I do not know if the magazine was altered or not, the magazine holds 3 rounds only. The rifle feeds properly 100% of the time.

Could you possibly send me more info on the .404j located on Gun Broker I cannot seem to find it?

thank you Lon

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
