...but I have NEVER been through a firearm this dirty! My gun guy liquidated an eatate that had 3 Remington 31's in it. He gave me first choice for $150. And anyone that's never handled a 31...they truly are the second coming of Christ. All machined and hand fit. They call them 'the ball bearing shotgun' for a reason. This one...NOT SO MUCH! It spent its life in the northwoods of Wisconsin chasing grouse. I'm pretty sure it was always oiled, but never cleaned. You ever seen anything like this? I'll report back once the action is back to 'smooth as glass' status...

Dont think I have seen anything quite that bad, bad yes, but not that bad. I bought a Remington model 14 in .32 Rem a few years ago that was the worst I have come across.

Unfortunately to say I have seen several as bad and a few that were a lot worse. The very worse was a Ruger Old Army cap and ball revolver that I was able to get for $60.00. Rusted, locked up cylinder, nipples rusted into the cylinder, pitted barrel, and 90% of the bluing was gone.

It took me a week to get it cleaned and functioning. Another 3 days work to get it reblued, and looking almost new again. Although the barrel still has pits, the rifling is still good as and so is its accuracy.

I'm sure every gunsmith has a horror story (or dozens) of firearm(s) that someone has brought to them for repair when they should have been recycled for parts.

Looks like the guns the dealers bring to the gun buyback programs. Last one in this state paid a hundred for anything, even if it was missing the necessary parts to make it usable.

The only way to get rid of scrap/ useless gunn parts at a profit.

WD-40 was definitely involved. That's kinda rough, but not horrible by any means. I work in a custom shotgun shop and we see stuff worse than that on a weekly basis, especially during duck season.
